School team building activity ideas
Team Building has long been seen as a way to get large businesses to work together more effectively, but the same advantages are every bit as useful for groups of school children. We see a lot of team building requests at the start of the academic year as teachers work at getting their group working together effectively.
Team building activities, through games or challenges, help children develop a number of key skills that will benefit them in the classroom and throughout their lives. Each child will have their own strengths, but a good team building activity will include communication skills, problem solving, leadership, creative thinking and listening. Working together in groups, children learn to cooperate in a fun environment through interaction with their peers. Team building also also allows groups to identify how each member of the team can best contribute to the common goal.
Team building boosts a child's self-confidence and resilience. To inspire a real team spirit in your class, have a look at some of the suggestions below. These providers recognise the benefits and include team working into what they offer. Broughton School - our team building experience
In early September last year, we treated our new year 6 classes to a team building day. The goal was to challenge them, promote teamwork within each school house and at the same time break the ice with their new teachers and have lots of fun.
During the course of the day our children took part in various problem solving activities, a team competition on an assault course, and a mini olympics where both individual and team points were collected. Each of activities challenged them and required them to work together to achieve the goals they were set.
The day was really well orgnised, with the children being encouraged to work well together. Watching them helping each other to get points that would benefit their houses rather than themelves was great to see. They all reported an enjoyable day out and we will definitely be making this a yearly event for the school.
