Which Italian ski resorts are best for school groups?

Planning a school ski trip to Italy? Here’s an overview of some of the top resorts in the Alps and Dolomites that are ideal for school groups. These resorts combine reliable snow conditions, safety, excellent ski instruction, and facilities tailored for children and teenagers. We have included details on travel access, skiing difficulty, and resort facilities to help you choose the best location for your group.

Val di Fiemme and Pampeago
Why? This ski area is pure Dolomites.  Val di Fiemme and Pampeago offer a stunning Italian alpine setting with over a hundred kilometers of ski slopes suitable for skiers of all abilities. Pampeago is famous for its wide, gentle beginner slopes such as the Tesero and Zeno runs, which are perfect for teaching the novice skiers that make up most school ski trips. The region benefits from plenty of natural snowfall, backed up by modern snow making facilities to keep conditions consistent during the ski season. The local ski schools are geared up for groups of school children and are used to working with beginners to help them get the most out of their week in the mountains. You can try fun activities like sledging and snowshoeing. And the resorts are only thirty miles from Bolzano Airport.

Folgaria
Why? Folgaria is located in the Trentino region and is known for its friendly atmosphere, gentle terrain and amazing food. The resort has 50km of pistes, including beginner zones such as the Costa and Flogarida areas.  This is definitely a resort high on a list of school groups visiting Italy.  The easy and wide slopes are ideal for learning to ski.  Add to that the reliable snowfall and the modern lift systems, dedicated ski schools, and safe environment - the appeal for school groups is obvious. Snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledging, make for good non-skiing days. And Folgaria's closeness to the city of Trento makes coach travel a simple step.

Cervinia
Why? Being the most snow-sure Italian resort, Cervinia is an excellent choice to take your school group to. It is one of the world's leading ski resorts, yet has many advantages for beginners and intermediates because there are plenty of gentle slopes. Nevertheless, it also has access to Europe's highest ski lifts and the slopes reach a height of 3450 metres. Cervinia has a long season, which starts in late October and lasts until early May. Consequently, you can travel there whenever is most convenient for your staff. Furthermore, because Cervinia is such a high-altitude ski resort with excellent snow conditions, it is an extremely striking resort, as it has such a vast and enchanting glacial terrain.

Sestriere
Why? This resort is a jewel in the crown of Italy's famous Milky Way ski area.  An incredible 400km of connected pistes cater to all abilities.  You could spend a school year here, never mind February half term, and never get bored. The resort is high altitude, the top end reaching a dizzy 2,640m.  This ensures amazing and reliable snow conditions throughout the season. Sestriere has modern lifts and well groomed slopes.  The beginner zone called Baby Sestriere has gentle, wide slopes, perfect for schools who have not skied before. The ski schools are very professional offering tailored lessons, ski safaris, and fun little competitions. Away from the slopes, try ice skating, snow tubing, and visits to the local Olympic village.

Tonale (Passo del Tonale)
Why? At the border of Lombardy and Trentino sits Tonale ski resort, a high altitude resort with  predictable snow backed up with modern snow making facilities. The Paradiso and Valena areas are great for beginners with wide and gentle runs to help you find your feet. Tonale's ski schools and activities like snowboarding, sledging, and snowshoeing, will keep your group busy all week. This resort can be reached from Milan or Bergamo airports by coach transfer.
