What PSHE workshops and trips in the UK support emotional wellbeing, relationships, and personal growth?

PSHE educational visits cover mental health sessions, team-building, and life skills activities helping students develop resilience, empathy, and healthy choices.

PSHE covers important issues such as mental and emotional health, social and physical well-being, food, relationships, sexual health and parenthood. The goal of this school subject is to develop healthy individuals, who are engaged and ready to enjoy fulfilling lives, where they make positive contributions to society.

Some schools refer to PSCHE; to include Citizenship (view our dedicated Citizenship page). Topics and lessons are often split into subject areas like healthy lifestyles, health and wellbeing, personal relationships and playing a positive role as citizens, and elements of careers education. If you are considering adding a trip to your lesson planning, we have some great venues for you to consider. Practical PSHE School Trips - Teacher FAQ

2 January 2026

Why take PSHE learning outside the classroom?
PSHE trips help students explore topics such as wellbeing, relationships, and personal development in real situations. Activities like team building, volunteering, or visiting community organisations allow pupils to practise communication, confidence, and decision making. These experiences often have a stronger impact than classroom discussions alone.

PSHE workshop at school or trip out - which works best?
Workshops at school are useful for structured discussions around sensitive topics such as relationships, mental health, or online safety (£150-£400). Trips to adventure centres or community organisations give pupils opportunities to apply these skills in practical settings. Many schools combine both approaches.

Free PSHE experiences available?
Yes. Local parks can be used for wellbeing walks, outdoor learning, or mindfulness sessions. Community centres and charities sometimes offer free talks or educational sessions. Some wellbeing events and youth programmes are also free for schools to attend.

Top 10 PSHE school trips teachers recommend (2026 check):

1. Adventure activity centres (team building and confidence)
2. People's History Museum, Manchester (rights and social change)
3. In-school wellbeing workshops
4. Eden Project, Cornwall (environmental responsibility)
5. National Justice Museum, Nottingham (law and choices)
6. RSPB nature reserves (wellbeing and nature connection)
7. Local charities or community groups (volunteering)
8. Educational theatre performances (relationships and social issues)
9. Sports centres (health and physical wellbeing)
10. Mindfulness or outdoor wellbeing retreats

PSHE trips for SEND pupils - what helps?
Many activity centres offer adapted programmes and accessible facilities. Workshops can provide calm spaces and structured activities for pupils with anxiety or sensory needs. Using flexible schedules and allowing extra support helps ensure all pupils can take part.

Typical cost for PSHE trips:
- Free parks plus travel: £2-£8 per child
- Activity centres: £5-£15 entry
- Workshops: £150-£400
- Residential wellbeing programmes: £100-£220 per child

Some PSHE learning activities may be subsidised through community organisations or youth programmes.
