School Transition Days

The Problem Solving Company has been running transition days in schools for 16 years. Can you give us an overview of these?

Changing schools, starting a new phase of education can be a daunting time for thousands of students each year. Unfamiliar surroundings, new faces and working out the expectations placed on them can create a whirlpool of anxiety and nerves.

The Problem Solving Companies transition days help to ease students into these new experiences and environments with a range of age appropriate activities. These activities give the students the opportunity to exchange ideas, reason with each other whilst working together to complete a common goal.

This provides a fantastic platform to get to know their peers on many different levels.

Who are your transition days aimed at?

Transition happens at many different stages of education and The Problem Solving Company have provided transition programs for pretty much all of them.

From those early steps into Primary School and specific intakes at Prep School our range of Primary age activities is unrivalled.

The transition from Year 6 to 7 is very popular with us working with 100,000s of students starting their Secondary school journey each year. Similarly, the transition from Prep School to Senior School features heavily in our school visits.

Sixth Form transitions have grown in popularity over the years and with some exciting new programs available we urge schools to book early!

Beyond the sixth form we also visit many Universities each year to work with specific departments to encourage bonding opportunities within different year groups.

We do of course run many bespoke sessions for numerous schools at less specific points in a student's academic life. Perhaps a class struggling to bond or a class reshuffle, we can provide a comprehensive program of activities to help.

What do you hope to achieve within your transition programs?

Quite simply we want to provide a platform for students of any age to familiarise themselves with their peers and start the process of making friends all whilst taking part in a range of stimulating, fun challenges.

This in turn, with a bonus of being outdoors, leads to feelings of well being, with less stress and anxiety difficulties during this transition phase.

What type of activities are involved in your transition days?

With 16 years of operating comes a huge range of activities for the many different age groups we work with. We create each program specifically for individual schools. For some our range of team building activities focusing on planning, working together, communication and motivation is plenty to go at.

For others they may choose or add in other activities from the list below.

Unlike so many companies we operate all year. This gives our team of lead instructors a breadth of experience that you cannot get with a seasonal team hired for July and September, the key months for transition programs.

As well as an all year round operation The Problem Solving Company draw on experience from a range of backgrounds such as teaching, outdoor education, and the police force to name a few.
