Good problem solving skills are key in order to develop Maths and Numeracy knowledge. One way that our challenges help students Maths skills is to enforce the idea of breaking down problems into a series of smaller steps, and persevering to seek solutions.
The logical thinking needed to solve our challenges helps students to build on their ability to follow a line of enquiry through from a basic idea to completion.
Shapes also feature in several of our activities, both 2D and 3D. This allows students to showcase their geometry talents, and improve on them.
Our activities give students the chance to experience and evaluate different ways of working together to solve problems. By learning how to put ideas across in a reasonable and respectful way, pupils develop understanding together as a community team.
They will build on their social skills by listening to other people within their group, evaluating the problems they face together and then communicating ideas and responsible solutions.
Teams will also develop resilience as they encounter tasks and activities that they may not be able to solve easily. WiseUp Team Building's challenges encourage children and young people to pull together and solve problems in order to reach their goal.
In School Activity Days provide learning opportunities and experiences to help children and young people develop and grow, both individually and as part of a team. Our activities help students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes that they need to confidently manage the challenges they may face in life by taking part in challenges in a safe, structured environment.
Outdoor Learning is brilliant for children and young people's mental health and emotional wellbeing. It is also the perfect space to teach them how to manage their own wellbeing by sharing the wonders of the natural world. Taking part in active and challenging tasks as part of a team builds resilience and self-esteem, along with the ability to adapt to transition and embrace change.
Relationship skills are a big feature of WiseUp Team Building's problem solving activity days. With students taking part in teams with people they may not normally associate with, they have to learn and develop ways of working together. The team's relationship dynamics play a huge role in how successful they are at completing the challenges. This means students must find techniques to communicate and operate as a functional unit, which are skills they will need in the wider world.
WiseUp Team Building has successfully delivered our fun and engaing Bushcraft Challenge to hundreds of schools over the last 10 years. We have specifically designed levels for children in all Key Stages, and bring all of the equipment needed to Primary Schools and Secondary Schools across the UK.
Our qualified instructor teams teach basic survival skills to children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 for a fun Primary School Bushcraft experience. also work in Secondary Schools, providing Outdoor Learning to students in Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. WiseUp travel to Sixth Form Colleges and Universities up and down the country teaching bushcraft and survival skills.
Fire Lighting, Water Purification, Shelter Building, Navigation and Wood Craft are just a few of the skills WiseUp Team Building are able to deliver on school sites. Our hands on sessions mean that children and young people get practical experience in an enjoyable way. They also may get a bit wet and muddy which, for many students, something that is out of their comfort zone!
The Bushcraft Challenge is great for Enrichment and Drop Down Days as pupils are having so much fun that they don't even realise they are learning. SEN students thrive on Bushcraft activities, which bring learning back to basics in a simple, yet effective way.
Great team work is absolutely crucial in any job, no matter what industry young people are looking to go into. Most employers rate team work skills in line with, or even above academic excellence. WiseUp days help students hone their core soft skills so that they are confidently and effectively able to work with a broad spectrum of different personality types.
WiseUp Team Building’s In School Activity Days give students the opportunity to take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges within school grounds. Our engaging problem solving activities present intellectual and physical challenges to groups. This encourages them to trust each other and work as a team.
Children and young people will also have individual challenges to overcome within our activities. Tackling these with team mates around them for support helps students to become competent and feel confident in their abilities.
Students are able to evaluate themselves on the activity challenges, which allows them the chance to compare their performance on a task with previous ones to demonstrate improvement.
Basic movement skills such as throwing, catching, running and jumping are incorporated into many of WiseUp’s challenges alongside agility skills like co-ordination and balance, both individually and as part of a team with others.
WiseUp's Apprentice Themed Days are an engaging and exciting way for older students to learn and practise key business skills. Accurate budgeting and financing is crucial, along with team and time management. Students will work together to create a full advertising campaign alongside their product, with details on target audience, USP and brand identity being discussed in a final presentation in front of the top boss!
Yes, we frequently take our activities into specialist SEN schools, and tailor the programme of the day accordingly to allow students additional time on certain sessions. By having a bespoke planning conversation with the lead teacher, our days are fully adaptable to suit all needs.
