School trips in Hampshire

The county of Hampshire has a wealth of school trip opportunities for schools, academies and colleges. Hampshire's major towns and cities include Basingstoke, Winchester, Portsmouth and Southampton where we offer the likes of Portchester Castle and Paultons Park. More rural and coastal settings like the New Forest and the Solent Coast, include the Countryside Education Trust, the Avon Tyrell outdoor activity centre, and the excellent Sustainability Centre, based in the South Downs National Park.

Another option for teachers looking for a new learning experience for their class is the spectacular Isle of Wight. English Heritage manage Carisbrooke Castle on the island and offer both free self led trips, as well as expert led workshops that cover a range of curriculum topics at various key stages. For those schools looking for water based outdoor adventure, look no further than Cowes and the UKSA watersports centre - a Hampshire institution that has been welcoming school groups for many years.

In Habitats pupils will be discovering and identifying creatures, looking at adaptations, using classification keys, magnifiers and an underwater camera, all out of doors and using our purpose built dipping pond. They will also use sweep nets on our meadow and collecting pots in the woods. There is a chance to look at microscope images back in the classroom too. Our tutors will get pupils working together as a class and in smaller groups and will include activities to encourage protection of fragile habitats such as working on our range of bug house hotels or creating habitat piles in the woods. Habitats study introduces the class to scientific terms such as...
