School Visits Wiltshire
inspiration and ideas
Are you a school group in Wiltshire, or looking to visit Wiltshire? We would like to give you some ideas about places to visit - real hands-on learning opportunities, and genuinely memorable experiences.
Wiltshire offers your school group opportunities in a variety of towns and cities throughout the county. Places like Salisbury with it's famous Cathedral, where your class can learn about medieval history, architecture, or religious heritages. The market town of Marlborough and the prehistoric Avebury stone circle, or nearby Stonehenge, where your class can link your Stone Age topic to something real and awe-inspiring. The town of Swindon offers school groups the chance to visit the Steam Railway Museum, where they can learn more about the Industrial Revolution and STEM-focused exhibits on topics linked to energy and transportation. While just over the border in Somerset, the old prison at Shepton Mallet has been converted into a National Education Programme for Schools where you can learn about modern day Citizenship, and Victorian Crime and Punishment.
Perhaps you are taking your Primary School children on a field studies outing, or on the annual mult-activity residential? Rural parts of Wiltshire feature an abundance of day and residential outdoor educational centres. Abundant local wildlife and varied physical geography, make opportunities to learn about environmental sciences in an engaging and memorable way.
