Mill on the Brue offers a unique outdoor experience like no other centre! With over 40 activities to choose from you really do manage to have at least 5 activities per day. No need to take minibuses, as all the activities are onsite. Our experienced and qualified instructors stay with the same group for the whole trip which helps to build a rapport and understanding with both the pupils and the accompanying school staff.
We have limited availability in November with the discounted low season price.

Come and spend some time in our new wood where the bush craft activity takes place. The pupils will learn to light fires with a fire steel and build a shelter big enough for the whole group. We take the time to use enjoy the peace of being in the beautiful wood and learning about tree and plant identification. This activity promotes focus, concentration and persistence and an opportunity to understand the wider environment.
A considerable amount of the activities on offer can provide an excellent learning and development opportunity to come up with a plan, try it out and then review the results. In particular we have an extensive list of team building activities helping to develop communication, resilience and a bit of patience!
We cook all our meals from base using locally sourced ingredients including vegetables from our kitchen garden. Eating together in our dining room called the Longhouse gives the time to talk about the activities and the day so far. We have always believed in providing really delicious, nutritious food. Every school enters our food waste competition seeing if they can be Zero heroes by the end of the stay. For the afternoon break we bake biscuits ready to give a little energy boost before more activities until supper.
We have over 40 activities to choose from soft skills to pushing the limits trying new challenges. Groups can do up to six activities a day. We can match the programme to be physical, environmentally themed, Town or River studies or focus on team building.
The two main areas the centre concentrates on is healthy living by promoting a balanced, nutritious diet in all our meals. Additionally the groups will have an opportunity to walk through our vegetable garden on their way to activities. If the school is staying for 4 nights then will include a Garden to Table activity into the programme learning all about organic agriculture, tasting, picking and planting vegetables.
Our instructors continue to have specific ongoing training in working with pupils from an SEN background.
Mill on the Brue is a family owned not for profit organisation that has been operating since 1982. Our core principle is quality not quantity. All the activities are within walking distance with the vast majority within the centre. We aim to make our visiting school staff welcome and supported, working them in order to get the most out of the stay for the children. That is probably why we have over a 93% return rate from our schools.
