Looking for cheap school trip ideas? We strongly believe that school trips should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. We are increasingly aware of how many schools are restricted in what they can offer their pupils because of funding, cuts to budgets, or how much they can expect parents to pay, prohibitive costs can prevent trips from taking place and is the main reason children are unable to take part in an outdoor education experience.

Aside from your transport costs, there really are places you can visit without any cost to the children. Many of the great historical venues run by English Heritage, the natural outdoor sites managed by the RSPB or the WWT, or a number of other great UK venues, and as long as you are happy to lead the trip yourself, your class can get in for free!

In order to get a cheaper school trip, some venues do require you to book ahead of time, and we always recommend that school groups get in contact to discuss any requirements. These venues have lots of experience in assisting schools get the maximum benefit from their visits.

School trip Special & Off-peak Offers

Education providers want to add value to your classroom lessons. To tempt you to try out what they offer, these workshops and school trip venues frequently offer incentives. Sometimes you have to be a new customer to benefit from an introductory offer. Some offers are only available to local schools.

Being flexible with the dates of your outdoor education experience is a great way to bring down the average cost per pupil. A week at a residential centre after your SATs will be significantly more than if you were to book the same trip in April or October. There are savings available to tempt you to book your visit during quieter months of year when there is less demand.

Bursaries

A number of the venues we feature offer bursaries to help schools make educational school trips cheaper. Many schools operate on eroded budgets and educate a proportion of children whose parents may not be able to afford the extra funding that schools often have to ask for in order to be able to take the children on learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Bursaries, perhaps established by wealthy philanthropists, charity fund raising, or generous donations, are put in place to help disadvantaged school groups. Please enquire to each venue to find out more about the levels of funding available, and the qualifying criteria.
