Connect with nature and learn about the park environment, wildlife and heritage with hands-on practical activities at the Hyde Park Learning Centre - a state of the art learning centre designed to facilitate a wide range of curriculum topics within the Royal Parks.
We employ a specialised education team and welcome any school group, including those with high levels of SEND. All sessions are adaptable to fit the specific needs of your group. Our sustainably designed building is surrounded by a wide range of habitats, which creates a safe, enclosed space for you and your students to learn in and explore.
Easily accessible via public transport, we are a few minutes walk from Marble Arch, Lancaster Gate, and Hyde Park Corner.
Learning opportunities are also available in Kensington Gardens, St James's Park and Brompton Cemetery as well as visits to your school through the Help Nature Thrive project.

Maths topics: Measurement, Geometry.
Counts, Proportions, Trigonometry, Formulae and Statistics: proof, if any were needed, that Maths and Science truly go hand in hand.
Art
Explore the beauty of a winter’s day while creating a sculpture inspired by the colours, patterns and textures found in nature.
Wildlife
Having free rein over the wide range of habitats within Hyde Park, we have the opportunity to study a plethora of creatures and step back to consider the ecosystem of the park as a whole.
Physics topics: Seasonal change, Weather.
Sunny? Windy? Rainy? Venture outside and discover how to measure the weather and relate it to seasonal patterns, learn about different clouds and record your own weather forecast!
Biology topics: Plants, Animals including humans, Living things and habitats, Evolution and inheritance, Ecology and environment, Life Cycles, Minibeasts, Habitats.
Students can get hands on experience of Biology, testing concepts learnt in class and watching science in action.
Human Geography topics: Settlement and land use, Urbanisation, Natural resources.
Students can conduct research into Place as part of their NEA Skills building session or Investigate Hyde Park and its role in Urban Sustainability.
Physical Geography topics: Weather, Water cycles, Map and atlas, Environment, Climate zones and biomes , Fieldwork, Rivers.
Learn the points of the compass, grid references and other key skills before putting them to the test in an orienteering challenge with our Map sessions. Older students can investigate the Carbon and Water cycles within Hyde Park and decide how we should change park management to prepare for the future.
Environmental Geography topics: Materials and recycling, Sustainable living, Conservation.
Investigate the species present in Hyde Park, where to find them, interdependence's and what conditions in those environments are like.
Fieldstudies
Research the park with the support of experienced outdoor educators who will lead students through the scientific enquiry process. Form and test hypotheses, develop methods and analyse the results of the investigation to form conclusions.
English topics: Pirates.
Arghh, avast me hearties! With a wrecked ship, students will have to put all their cross-curricular skills to the test in order to make it across the park and onto the pirate ship in The Diana Memorial Playground.
SEN
We welcome all students and are always keen to discuss how we can support particular needs with you, to make their visit to the park as rewarding as possible. The Hyde Park Learning Centre has been designed with accessibility in mind and provides plenty of opportunities for sensory exploration.
What size groups do you cater for?
The LookOut Discovery Centre can accommodate up to 60 students at a time. Capacity varies across other sites.
Do you offer on-site classroom facilities?
The LookOut Discovery Centre has two classrooms, suitable for 30 students each. Drinking fountains, projectors, gendered & accessible toilets (with hoist). All learning resources provided.
Is there first aid on site?
Yes, all learning officers fully First aid trained and enhanced DBS checked.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Accessible building, toilets, paths, hoist. Our experienced education team are more than happy to discuss your requirements and tailor the session to your individual group.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
The LookOut Discovery Centre is accessible to all ages and abilities. Our experienced education team are more than happy to discuss your requirements and tailor the session to your individual group.
Anything else?
We're able to offer a limited number of bursaries for schools who would otherwise be unable to get to The LookOut due to the cost and/or logistics of visiting Hyde Park by providing free or discounted sessions.

Who are The Royal Parks?
The Royal Parks is the charity that supports and manages 5,000 acres of Royal parkland across London.
The LookOut Discovery Centre, Hyde Park is a unique, eco-friendly building nestled in an acre of enclosed grounds in the heart of the park.
Our gardens and indoor spaces are practical all year round, whatever the weather, and our two bright and airy ‘discovery’ classrooms can host up to 30 students each. These purpose built spaces mean that students of any age can have safe access to hands-on, practical activities and become comfortable with the process of scientific enquiry.
The LookOut is fully accessible and has Disability Discrimination Act compliant features including wide paths, toilets and a fully fitted sensory room.
We offer curriculum-linked sessions from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Post- 16. Our expert facilitators will bring learning to life for your students!
