The Great Fire of London
School Workshops - The Drama Hut
At The Drama Hut, we believe that schools should have ready access to affordable drama workshops in order to support learning. The Drama Hut was created in order to provide a service that teachers could access, to help bring the curriculum to life. Through drama, children are able to experience a subject, complementing and enhancing their learning in the classroom.
All our team are trained both in facilitation and performance. They have experience working with children of all ages and share a common passion through learning through drama. All facilitators are DBS checked and implement The Drama Hut CPP (Child Protection Policy).
Why book The Drama Hut for educational workshops into your school?
During this workshop the children will meet the Charles II's baker and later Samuel Pepys, who will guide them through those fateful days when the Great Fire raged through London. During the session, the children will, create pictures from the period using their bodies with our fast paced 10 second picture game. Discuss quotes from Samuel Pepy’s diary and unravel their true meanings. Act out a poem depicting the events when the fire raged through London. With movement and song, become the fire itself with dramatic effect and climax. Finally debate with Samuel Pepys how the fire changed London forever and discuss how architecture could be improved for the future.
What size groups do you cater for?
We can work with up to 30 children at any one time for a minimum of 60 minutes. We offer special day rates for multiple classes and can deliver two different topics to different year groups on the same day, helping to manage tight school budgets. All we require on the day is the school hall or similar to work in and a member of staff to observe the session/s.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Drama Hut have worked with our school on many occasions. Each time, the workshops have been well planned out- with teachers ideas in mind, well executed by very enthusiastic practitioners and have been thoroughly enjoyed by all children! Each workshop has engaged the children enormously, using original ideas that involve the children through practical games and activities. I would recommend this drama company to all schools.
