The Drama Hut - Celebrating a diverse and global community

The Drama Hut brings topics to life, both supporting and enriching learning, for primary aged children. In recent years we have seen a change in the curriculum that is seeking to reflect and discuss the wider multicultural society we live in, it's history and its impact. As a company we welcome and embrace this positive shift and have responded by developing and delivering a series of new workshops and adapting existing ones including our latest Windrush topic.
Specific aims set out by The Department of Education in 2023
'We want all pupils to benefit from a high quality and diverse history curriculum. Although Black History Month only happens once a year, the curriculum supports children learning about it all year round. One of the key aims of the history curriculum is to know and understand the history of these islands as a coherent, chronological narrative, from the earliest times to the present day. This includes how people's lives have shaped this nation and how Britain has influenced and been influenced by the wider world, which helps build an understanding of a shared British and world history.'
It is encouraging to see that the celebration and teaching of important lives and events are no longer constrained to set days and months and we are thrilled that workshops we offer, such as The Suffragettes, Mary Seacole, Rosa Parks, British Values and Windrush, are being booked all year round.
As a company, we remain passionate about the need for drama within education, it is a tool that unlocks creativity and enables children to learn about important issues in a fun and interactive way. This year we see the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush generation and we are excited that our Windrush workshop is proving to be one of our most popular sessions.
"The children had an amazing morning and really enjoyed the workshop. They also got lots of useful information for their topic work. The workshop was informative as well as being fun and exciting. The Drama Hut were amazing, very helpful and accommodating while we were making the arrangements for the workshop to take place. The actor who came was excellent with the children and kept them engaged at all times. We will definitely use The Drama Hut again for future workshops in our school" Rufforth Primary

Our team of wonderful actors really do help bring these and other topics to life, an increasing number of repeat bookings and consistently good feedback, give testament to this, and the quality you can expect from The Drama Hut.
