Why
book 'Introducing Shakespeare- Engage and Inspire' with The Drama Hut
During this workshop, our professional actor will lead the children on a fun exploration of ‘all things Shakespeare’! We will explore how exciting and accessible our renowned English poet and playwright's work can really be. Through voice exercises, storytelling, text work and improvisation, the children will be encouraged to free inhibitions and discover the confidence to perform his work! During the workshop the children will prepare their voices for performance, be introduced to the story of 'Macbeth' and explore Shakespearean text and the rich use of language used. We will also create an atmospheric scene; physically and vocally, develop characterisation skills using the 'Witches' in 'Macbeth' and develop a short performance piece!
During this workshop, led by our professional actor, we will explore how we can use our voice and aim to encourage the children to free inhibitions whilst discovering their inner confidence to perform some of Shakespeare's work! SEN
What size groups do you cater for?
We typically run 60-120 minute workshops with up to 30 children at any one time and can offer special day rates for multiple classes. We are also able to provide two different topics on the same day for different year groups.
How does safeguarding work for online workshops?
Online sessions are jointly hosted by the teacher and our actor and may or may not be recorded, depending on the preference of the school. Ideally workshops take place in a school hall with a large screen, however, they can also work extremely well in a classroom, with desks pushed aside. Our Risk Assessment document is available upon request and is updated regularly to comply with all current advice and guidelines.
What technology/devices/type of internet connection do schools need for an online workshop?
Online workshops are delivered live by professional actors and typically last 60-75 minutes each. They are structured in the same way as an on-site visit and have the advantage of utilising the benefits of technology – in particular, virtual backgrounds, enabling actors to transport children back in time, to any era or location. School will require a good internet connection and ideally a large screen to project our actor on to, so all the children have good visibility.
Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?
Yes - the very nature of our workshops being so visual and experiential, has led to extremely positive feedback from teachers.
Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Yes - children with special educational needs really benefit and enjoy our workshops.

Testimonial:
'Drama Hut have worked with our school on many occasions. Each time, the workshops have been well planned out- with teachers ideas in mind, well executed by very enthusiastic practitioners and have been thoroughly enjoyed by all children! Each workshop has engaged the children enormously, using original ideas that involve the children through practical games and activities. I would recommend this drama company to all schools.'
