We explore what it meant for Ada Lovelace to be a pioneering woman of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics during the Victorian Times, a time when typically women were expected to marry and take part in their husband's interests and business, as well as bring up the children and take care of the home.
We also look at other inventions created during the Victorian era including the telephone and the lightbulb.
Led by Ada Lovelace, a pioneering woman of STEM back in the Victorian era, we will also explore many other significant individuals from history, remembered for creating innovative inventions which have shaped how we live and work today. Some of these individuals include Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Mavis Beaty, Martin Baird and Timothy Berners Lee to name a few!
Within this workshop we look at the 'Analytical Engine', a device remembered in history for being a very early machine likened to a computer that Ada Lovelace worked on with mathematician and friend, Charles Babbage.
Lovelace created an algorithm for the machine, which is why some people believe Lovelace to be the first computer programmer. Within the workshop the children will get the change to see what this machine looked like and as a class we will recreate the shape of it, through drama and role-play!
Yes - children with special educational needs really benefit and enjoy our workshops.
At the Drama Hut we employ skilled costumed actors who use the Performing Arts, to help children truly experience a subject, complementing and enhancing learning in the classroom. Through improvisation, role play, movement and song, we help to bring the curriculum to life. Whether you choose to have us visit you online or on-site, our workshops are delivered live and are fully interactive. Prices start at £120 for a single workshop, with discounts available when multiple sessions/different topics are booked.
Whether it's a history subject, creative writing workshop, PSHE or an opportunity to celebrate a significant person or event, let us help you to inspire learning with a Drama Hut workshop.
