From Reluctant Writers to Confident Storytellers: The Power of Drama in the Classroom
The Drama HutSo how do we bridge that gap?At The Drama Hut, we've seen first-hand how drama can transform a child's relationship with literacy. By stepping into stories rather than just reading them, pupils begin to experience language as something active, creative, and meaningful.

In the early years especially, children learn best by doing. Through role play, improvisation, and movement, they explore language in a way that feels natural and engaging. Instead of facing a blank page with uncertainty, they build ideas collaboratively, develop characters, and gain the confidence to express themselves.
This kind of playful, experiential learning is widely supported. Research such as Peter Gray's work on play-based learning highlights how creativity, confidence, and engagement are strengthened when children are given the freedom to explore and imagine.
Bringing stories to life
Our Creative Writing workshops are designed to unlock that potential. Led by professional, costumed actors, sessions immerse pupils in imaginative worlds where they can:
• Discover what makes a great story
• Explore narrative structure in a practical, memorable way
• Create unique, engaging characters
• Experiment with language through play and performance
From exploring the world of fairy tales and superheroes in Key Stage 1 to that of Roald Dahl and William Shakespeare in Key Stage 2, each workshop is tailored to suit the age, topic, and needs of your pupils.
Supporting teachers too!
The confident use of drama within the classroom can have a positive impact on everyday teaching. That's why we now also offer CPD sessions focused on simple, practical techniques that can be embedded into everyday teaching, no drama background required. Even small changes can make a big difference to engagement, confidence, and participation across the curriculum.
