Why book 'Creative Writing Superheroes' with The Drama Hut

During this workshop, our enthusiastic amateur writer 'Sally Spade' will share her love of stories and in particular Graphic Novels. We will explore where to start, how Graphic Novels work and also discuss what’s involved, with the aim that we can inspire and provide the tools for the children to be able to go away and create their very own masterpiece! With the help of some well-known Superheroes, Sally will take the children on a journey of discovery into the world of storytelling. During the session the children will: discuss what makes a good story, learn how a story can be structured, look at characterisation, explore story telling through mime and movement and also create and perform their own version of a Super Hero tale!

Story writing Superheroes

In this workshop we will explore what tools we need to use, in order to create a great story, including how a story can be structured, characterisation and onomatopoeia. We aim to be able to inspire the children to feel confident in using their imagination and the lessons learnt in the workshop to go away and create their own stories!

Performing Arts

Our workshops include tailored, fully interactive, drama games, role play, teamwork exercises, songs, movement and more, led by a professional costumed actor.

What size groups do you cater for?

We can work with up to 30 children at any one time for a minimum of 60 minutes. We offer special day rates for multiple classes and can deliver two different topics to different year groups on the same day, helping to manage tight school budgets.

How does safeguarding work for online workshops?

Online sessions are jointly hosted by the teacher and our actor and may or may not be recorded, depending on the preference of the school. Ideally workshops take place in a school hall with a large screen, however, they can also work extremely well in a classroom, with desks pushed aside. Our Risk Assessment document is available upon request and is updated regularly to comply with all current advice and guidelines.

What technology/devices/type of internet connection do schools need for an online workshop?

Online workshops are delivered live by professional actors and typically last 60-75 minutes each. They are structured in the same way as an on-site visit and have the advantage of utilising the benefits of technology – in particular, virtual backgrounds, enabling actors to transport children back in time, to any era or location. School will require a good internet connection and ideally a large screen to project our actor on to, so all the children have good visibility.

Do you offer access for visitors with disabilities?

Yes - the very nature of our workshops being so visual and experiential, has led to extremely positive feedback from teachers. 

Do you cater for visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

Yes - children with special educational needs really benefit and enjoy our workshops.
