School Workshop Online Workshop

trip icon Meet the 'Goddess' Isis and help de-code an ancient scroll, helping a Pharoah to reach the afterlife. Work as a team to create pictures depicting life on the banks of the Nile, decide what you would pack in a tomb and learn a chant to help our Pharaoh through the gates of Yaru.

Where we travel to

We can visit your school in:

What activities are available during this school workshop?

Our workshops include tailored, fully interactive, drama games, role play, team work exercises, songs, movement and more, led by a professional costumed actor.

Which curriculum topics do we cater for?

Egyptians

Gods and Goddesses Mummies Pharaohs Pyramids and Tombs Belief in the Afterlife

With the help of the Goddess Isis, during our Egyptian workshop, the children will help to unravel the secrets hidden in an ancient Egyptian scroll and discover how a Pharaoh would journey to the afterlife, whilst also exploring how the ancient Egyptians lived.

Performing Arts

All of our workshops involve improvisation, role play, singing and movement all of which are tailored to the chosen topic.

What size groups do we cater for?

We work with up to 30 children at any one time for a minimum of 60 minutes. Additional children are charged at £4 per person. We offer special day rates for multiple workshops and can deliver two different topics on the same day to help manage costs for schools.

How does safeguarding work for online workshops?

Online sessions are jointly hosted by the teacher and actor and may or may not be recorded, depending on the preference of the school. Ideally workshops take place in a school hall with a large screen, however, they can also work extremely well in a classroom, with desks pushed aside. Our Risk Assessment document is available upon request and is updated regularly to comply with all current advice and guidelines.

What technology/devices/type of internet connection do schools need for an online workshop?

Online workshops are delivered live by professional actors and offer a fully interactive experience, enhancing learning in a creative environment. They are structured in the same way as an on-site visit and have the advantage of utilising the benefits of technology ' in particular, virtual backgrounds, enabling actors to transport children back in time, to any era or location. School will require a good internet connection and ideally a large screen to project our actor on to, so all the children have good visibility. The Drama Hut currently using Zoom but can also work with Teams if this is a school preferred platform. We suggest online sessions last no longer than 75 minutes and recommend teachers test the link prior to the visit, to ensure sound and picture quality.

Access for visitors with disabilities

Yes - the very nature of our workshops being so visual and experiential, has led to extremely positive feedback from teachers when it comes to us working with children with disabilities.

Visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Children with special educational needs seem to really benefit and enjoy our interactive workshops.

Testimonial:

'Thank you very much for delivering such a fantastic drama session which enabled the children to develop their understanding and enthusiasm for Ancient Egypt. You took us all on a very exciting journey to learn about many aspects of Ancient Egyptian history and did so in a truly creative and imaginative way'.

Our Reviews from Schools..

★★★★★
Every drama activity was carefully planned and chosen to teach the children new information about the Egyptians. Anna engaged the children and the children really responded well to her approach. At point I left the room for 5 minutes and came back to everyone singing, chanting and doing actions to a song they had just learned using all the names of the Egyptian Gods, which was great to see! Thank you!

Lillie was so professional and truly captured each child’s interest. Even the ‘too cool’ kids we’re fully engaged and enjoyed every second. The content was fantastic to begin out topic and the children have remembered a lot and applied it to their further learning. All of the children have wrote a letter to express their enjoyment and appreciation for their workshop. I would fully recommend! Thank you

The energy of our lead was fantastic- she kept up high energy levels across the groups, being able to motivate and move on the children quickly. The children were able to retain the information they were taught and we were impressed with our knowledge.
