All of our workshops are available online and can be live streamed into classrooms, halls and homes. COVID related cancellations are available at short notice as long as workshops can be rescheduled for later in the year.
All our team are professional actors, trained both in facilitation and performance. They have experience working with children of all ages and share a common passion through learning through drama. All facilitators are DBS checked and implement The Drama Hut CPP (Child Protection Policy).
All we require prior to our visit is a clear space to work in and a member of staff to observe or join in the experience.
We cover a wide range of topics from the school curriculum and use drama-based activities to bring the subject to life. Here is a selection of the topics we cover: Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Mayans, Romans, Stone Age, Saxon and Viking, Victorians, WW1, WW2, Great Fire of London Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Great Explorers. We can also provide bespoke workshops at schools requests.
Curriculum topics available: Superheroes.
Travel back in time with Amelia Earhart who will share her passion for adventure as the first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic ocean. During the workshop the children will also be introduced to Christopher Columbus, Joseph Banks, Nellie Bly and Neil Armstrong, however if you and your class are studying a particular explorer, we will happily include them! During the session the children will:
• Through improvisation, role play and movement, explore what makes an explorer, who they are and why they explore! During the session the children will, create a time line of explorers, perform a poem and take part in a short, quick fire quiz
Our activities allow children to truly experience a subject and our consistent feedback from teachers is that they return to their classroom enthused to develop their understanding of the topic in more depth as a result.
Amelia Earhart was an important figure in 20th Century history, breaking down gender barriers and proving the world was a place to be explored not just by men but by all. This fits well into many school topics covering diversity as well as our Suffragette and Mary Seacole workshop.
We can work with up to 30 children at any one time for a minimum of 60 minutes. We offer special day rates for multiple classes and can deliver two different topics to different year groups on the same day, helping to manage tight school budgets.
All we require on the day is the school hall or similar to work in and a member of staff to observe the session/s.
Schools will require a large screen either in a classroom or hall so that the children are able to see our actor clearly. Sessions are delivered live so a good internet connection is essential. Sessions typically last approx 60-75 minutes each but this can be determined by the school to fit with their timetable.
“We have used The Drama Hut on several occasions to help enrich and inspire the children’s experience of the curriculum. All facilitators have been well prepared and able to use their dramatic skills to deliver well-pitched and interesting workshops. Children are always excited after the session and are able to speak confidently about what they have learnt.”
Marie Hedges, Orleans Primary School, Middlesex
At The Drama Hut, we believe that schools should have ready access to drama in order to support learning. The Drama Hut was created in order to provide an affordable on-site service that teachers could access, to help bring the curriculum to life. Through drama, children are able to experience a subject, complementing and enhancing their learning in the classroom.
With over two hundred schools visited last year, we are passionate about the impact that drama within schools, can have on children’s education.
