What activities are available during this school workshop?

'Dinosaurs at Dusk' - Journey back in time in the digital dome through the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous geological periods. Join a father and his daughter Lucy, who share a fascination for all things that fly, on an adventure like no other. Navigating from continent to continent, exploring an Earth teeming with dinosaurs, they search for clues on the origins of flight. 'Dinosaurs at Dusk' is a high-definition, IMAX-style 360° film available as a full-length 44min version or condensed 30min version. Trailer below and full preview on our website (link at the bottom of this page). The film is followed by a presenter-led and interactive discussion of fossils, life on Earth, and the geological timeline.

'Natural Selection' - Travel with Charles Darwin on the HMS Beagle to the Galapagos Islands, where he was inspired to discover the astounding biological process of natural selection. From the comfort of Down House in Kent, Darwin himself describes the mechanism of natural selection with numerous beautiful examples and glorious 360˚ visuals. The thrill of discovery, the adventure of science, and the beauty of nature are vividly merged and powerfully brought to life in this unforgettable fulldome film. Both 41min and 29min versions available. Trailer and full preview on our website (link at the bottom of this page). The film is followed by a presenter-led and interactive discussion of present-day evidence of evolution in action, and the geological timeline.

Which curriculum topics do we cater for?

green tick Biology Workshop

Animals including humans Living things and habitats Evolution and inheritance Ecology and environment Dinosaurs Evolution inheritance and variation (KS3/4)

Click to read full text We showcase the reality of Dinosaurs and authenticity of Biological Evolution, using engaging presenters and modern 360° projection technology. Students and teachers will be left with vivid and lasting memories to motivate classroom learning.

'Dinosaurs at Dusk' - With numerous examples of dinosaurs gradually turning into birds, the science content in the film includes continental drift, extinctions, and the convergent development of flight among different species. This leads to the presenter-led component, with the audience experiencing a 360° 'time funnel' leading from the Cambrian to the present day - vividly depicting continental drift, and the evolution & extinction of countless species of plants and animals along the way.

'Natural Selection' - Not only do students get to sail on the HMS Beagle to the Galapagos Islands; visit Charles Darwin in his study; walk amongst giant tortoises and iguana lizards; but also get to dive into a breathtaking coral reef. Darwin himself elucidates the concept of natural selection, reinforcing it by showcasing a multitude of exquisite instances found in nature.

The film is followed by a presenter-led, interactive component, where pupils learn about genetic throwbacks and the evidence of evolution all around us. They see lizards in the process of turning into snakes; how the dog is losing its 'thumb'; and how humans are growing taller. They discover that all animals (including humans) have the exact same complement of bones in their bodies - yet modified and adapted (sometimes greatly) to suit their way of life.

Includes a comprehensive Education Guide for teachers

green tick Dinosaurs Workshop

Racing against time with the main characters of 'Dinosaurs at Dusk', pupils paraglide in 360° through ancient skies with the majestic Quetzalcoatlus, flee from speedy raptors, and traverse deserts with the gigantic Argentinosaurus. They walk through rain forests, climb ice cliffs, sail over primordial seas and parachute into a huge sinkhole in their search for the first flying birds. When time runs out they even experience first-hand the cataclysmic ‘final day' of the dinosaurs.

Includes an Apatosaurus Crossword and Create-a-Saurus activity.

What size groups do we cater for?

Our largest dome can accommodate up to 70 primary school students (+ 4 adults); or up to 45 secondary school students (+ 4 adults). You have the choice of booking a 4m, 5m, 6m or 7m digital dome, for either half a day, full day or split across lunch; and we will happily squeeze in as many performances as you wish in the time allocated. We also cover a variety of other subjects including astronomy, space, history (WWI & WWII), the climate emergency, and geography (see our other adverts on this site).

Access for visitors with disabilities

Yes we do. Not only are our domes easy to enter / exit through a standard doorway, but they are also wheelchair accessible.

Visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

We offer a rich selection of sensory immersive music and art experiences, and our science presenter-led performances are flexible and adaptable for all educational needs, with stunning 360-degree visuals.
