History Trip to Berlin School Trips

Sweet Chariot

trip icon This history trip to Berlin includes a guided tour of the city with visits to key sights such as The Brandenburg Gate, Goering’s Air Ministry, Fuehrer Bunker and Opera Square. A tour of Sachsenhausen concentration camp and a guided tour of the Cold War sites which includes Karl Marx Allee, Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin Wall Memorial and Hohenschönhausen. Other highlights include a visit to the Reichstag Building, dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and a concert at the Berlin Opera House.

Walking the streets, seeing the historical sites firsthand, and visiting the museums offers a much deeper and more emotional understanding than simply reading about these events in a textbook. It allows students to connect with the past in a tangible way and grasp the human impact of these global conflicts.

green tick World War

Click to read full text Visiting Berlin offers a powerful way to understand both World War II and the Cold War due to the city's central role in these historical periods.

Berlin was the capital of Nazi Germany. Visiting sites like the former location of Hitler's bunker, the Topography of Terror (on the former site of the Gestapo and SS headquarters), and the German Resistance Memorial Center provides insights into the rise and fall of the Nazi regime and the resistance against it. Visiting the Holocaust Memorial helps students grasp the scale and horror of the Holocaust, a direct consequence of the Nazi ideology that was headquartered in Berlin.

Berlin was the most visible symbol of the Iron Curtain. The Berlin Wall Memorial offers a tangible understanding of the physical and ideological division of Europe. You can see remnants of the wall, learn about escape attempts, and understand the impact it had on the lives of ordinary people. Visiting the former crossing point between East and West Berlin highlights the tensions and the stark contrast between the two sides during the Cold War.

Berlin is a living museum of these two pivotal periods in world history.
