WiseUp’s hands-on First Aid Training directly supports key learning objectives in the KS3 and KS4 Biology curriculum, particularly within the "Health and the Human Body" and "Principles of Homeostasis and Response" strands.
Students gain real-world context for biological concepts such as:
The structure and function of the circulatory and respiratory systems (through CPR and AED use)
The body’s response to injury and infection, including inflammation and immune response
Homeostasis and the body’s reaction to shock, burns, allergic responses, and trauma
The role of the nervous system in pain, movement, and coordination during injury
Practical application of biology in healthcare and emergency scenarios
By engaging in practical, scenario-based learning—such as wound care, bandaging, and immobilisation—students are able to apply biological knowledge in a meaningful, memorable way. This active approach deepens understanding and reinforces key concepts in anatomy, physiology, and health science.
WiseUp’s First Aid Training enhances science education by bridging the gap between theory and application, helping students make connections between classroom learning and real-life situations.
WiseUp’s Bushcraft Challenge offers an immersive, outdoor learning experience that brings key areas of the KS3 and KS4 Biology curriculum to life. Through hands-on activities in a natural environment, students explore core biological concepts in a practical, engaging way.
The experience supports learning in areas such as:
Ecology and ecosystems – through natural navigation, sustainable resource use, and understanding human impact on the environment
Respiration and energy transfer – during firelighting and survival activities, students apply their knowledge of energy needs and biological processes Adaptation and survival – students explore how humans and animals adapt to their environments and learn techniques rooted in natural science
Sustainability and biodiversity – by building shelters, creating eco-art, and sourcing natural materials, pupils examine how human activity affects the natural world
Bushcraft sessions promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and environmental awareness, all while reinforcing biological knowledge in a memorable, hands-on setting.
WiseUp’s Bushcraft Challenge strengthens students’ connection to the natural world and helps them see how biology applies beyond the classroom, supporting both academic understanding and personal development.
WiseUp’s First Aid Carousel is a powerful and engaging way to support key strands of the PSHE curriculum at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, helping students develop essential life skills, confidence, and a sense of social responsibility.
Aligned with the statutory Health Education guidance, this practical, hands-on experience links directly to the following PSHE curriculum themes:
Health and Wellbeing – Students learn how to keep themselves and others safe in a variety of emergency scenarios. Training includes CPR, AED use, wound care, burns, allergic reactions, shock, and more—giving them the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in real-life situations.
Relationships and Responsibility – First Aid training promotes empathy, compassion, and moral responsibility, encouraging students to look out for others and understand their role in protecting people’s wellbeing both inside and outside school.
Living in the Wider World – By developing decision-making, communication, and leadership skills, students are better prepared to contribute positively to their communities and act responsibly in high-pressure situations.
The First Aid Carousel also supports resilience building, self-efficacy, and critical thinking—equipping students with practical tools that support not only their personal development but also their mental and emotional health.
WiseUp’s First Aid Carousel brings PSHE to life in a meaningful, memorable way—empowering students with real skills that truly matter.
First Aid is a vital and natural extension of any Bushcraft programme. In a survival or outdoor environment, the ability to respond effectively to injury or emergency situations is not just helpful—it’s essential. Teaching First Aid alongside Bushcraft provides students with a well-rounded, practical skillset that builds independence, responsibility, and resilience.
Key connections between Bushcraft and First Aid education include:
Real-world application – Students learn to manage common outdoor injuries such as cuts, burns, sprains, insect bites, and allergic reactions in realistic settings.
Risk awareness and safety – While learning firelighting or using tools, students are taught how to identify hazards, assess risks, and respond calmly if something goes wrong.
Emergency response – Training includes how to act in remote environments, where help may not be immediately available, covering key survival first aid like CPR, shock management, and creating makeshift splints or stretchers.
Improvisation and problem-solving – Students are encouraged to use natural materials and limited resources to treat injuries, reinforcing creativity and adaptability—core Bushcraft values.
Integrating First Aid into Bushcraft strengthens students' practical knowledge, supports PSHE and Biology curriculum goals, and boosts confidence and capability in outdoor scenarios. It prepares them not just to survive—but to support others in challenging environments.
WiseUp’s First Aid Carousel offers a hands-on, skills-based experience that directly supports the aims of the Physical Education curriculum at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. While First Aid may sit outside traditional sports, it plays a crucial role in developing the physical, social, and emotional competencies outlined in PE learning outcomes.
Key curriculum links include:
Promoting safety and responsibility – The PE curriculum emphasises understanding the risks involved in physical activity. Our First Aid Carousel teaches students how to prevent injuries and respond appropriately in emergencies, reinforcing the importance of risk awareness and management in sport and physical environments.
Developing leadership and personal responsibility – Students gain confidence and independence as they take the lead in simulated scenarios, administer basic first aid, and support their peers—essential elements of leadership, teamwork, and character education in PE.
Building resilience and decision-making – First aid training enhances students' ability to stay calm under pressure, assess situations, and make rapid, informed decisions—skills that are valuable both in physical activity and in life beyond school.
Encouraging lifelong health and well-being – Understanding how to care for others and manage injuries supports the curriculum goal of promoting healthy, active lifestyles, helping students make informed choices for their own physical and emotional well-being.
From CPR and AED training to wound care, splinting, and injury response, the First Aid Carousel gives students a practical, real-world skillset that complements and deepens their understanding of health, fitness, and physical education.
Yes, we frequently take our activities into specialist SEN schools, and tailor the programme of the day accordingly to allow students additional time on certain sessions. By having a bespoke planning conversation with the lead teacher, our days are fully adaptable to suit all needs.
