Our diverse range of activities encourage all core skills involved in PE, such as; Balance, Coordination, Stamina, Problem Solving and Strength. We have activities such as; Climbing, Archery, Sailing, Kayaking, Track Cycling and other more Team focussed activities too.
Sailing, Windsurfing and Kayaking are activities that we offer through the summer months (April - Oct) utilising our great location on the edge of the Solent.
We offer field studies investigations using the habitats local to the centre, including the Solent, Calshot Beach and the New Forest National Park. Topics include woodland, heathland, freshwater, littoral and sub-littoral ecology.
Being located on a landform known as a Spit, we are a living example of Costal Deposition and long-shore drift. Groups can explore local coastal management systems on, or close to, our centre. In our mini-buses we can also take students into the New Forest National Park to complete River Study fieldwork.
In our Field Studies sessions students explore and investigate the natural environment through a range of curriculum linked activities. Using the New Forest National Park, Calshot Beach and the Solent on our doorstep, students can experience a wide range of habitats and geographical features in a hands-on way. Our sessions are designed to engage and challenge students, bringing to life topics such as beach and marine ecology, coastal erosion and river channel changes. Fieldwork skills are developed throughout the sessions as students use a range of scientific equipment and methods to collect and analyse data.
Yes. Most areas of the site are accessible, with a limited number of wheelchair friendly accommodation options too. We can adapt the majority of our activities to accommodate groups with limited mobility. We work hard to be as inclusive as possible.
Calshot offers day and residential educational visits for KS1 to A-level students. Blessed by our location and indoor activity Hangars, we deliver great programmes across the year. From a summer sailing adventure, embracing the sun, sand and sea to a winter activity trip making the most of our ski slope, climbing wall, velodrome (all indoor) and other indoor facilities.
As part of Hampshire Outdoor Centres we have a shared vision with our 3 sister centres to deliver outdoor education programmes which enhance a young persons personal, social and academic development through a journey of challenge, adventure and self-discovery.
Everything we do is delivered with our 5 core values in mind; Resilience, Wellbeing, Being Safe, Respect and Sustainability.
