The Celts remain to this day one of the most enigmatic and elusive people from history.
Through our Roman workshop, discover how the Celts lived, ate, farmed and hunted in the British isles long before the arrival of the Romans. Discover what trade the Celts had with the continent before the Romans. Hear about Celtic religious practice, performed by the fearsome Druids.
The Romans changed the course of British history for ever. to great icons of the Roman empire, such as Julius Caesar, Claudius, Caligula, and Vespasian, Britain was always a fascination.
In our workshop, hear how the Roman Army maintained control of the province of Britannia with a network of impressive forts. Discover why the Romans build Hadrian's Wall, one of the most impressive engineering undertakings anywhere in the Roman Empire. Hold and feel the equipment of a Roman Legionary for yourselves, and hear how a centurion would have trained his Century.
Hear how Auxiliary soldiers helped defend and protect the Roman Empire, and discover how the Romans encouraged native people from other provinces to be more like them in a process called 'Romanisation'.
To understand the Romans, we need to know the ways in which we learn about them. Our Interpreters are Archaeology graduates with fieldwork experience, able to discuss the archaeological process for how we discover what life was like for Romano-British people.
We discuss what types of sources are available to Archaeologists, and why it is important to cross-reference material culture with written sources for a more informed view of Roman life.
We being Roman history to life with our collection of replica artefacts, many of which we have reproduced ourselves.
We work with SEN groups, and can suitably tailor our material and delivery for whatever your particular access requirements might be.
