Romans and Britons Workshop

Marvellous History Ltd

School Workshop Online Workshop

trip icon Our workshops are run by professional costumed specialists with years of experience in school settings. We don't "stand at the front and talk", we expect the children (and teachers!) to get involved and really feel what it was like to live in the Roman Empire.

Our Roman workshops cover the period from the first attempted invasion of Britain in 55BC to the end of Roman Britain in 410AD. From the first battles between the Romans and the Iron Age Britons (Celts) to the integration into the Empire and to the collapse of Rome and the so-called Dark Ages, the children will learn about the story from both sides. From Julius Caesar to Boudicca, from baths and amphitheatres to citizenship and Saxon invasions, our Roman and Celt workshops bring the whole Roman era to life.

We bring authentically made replica artefacts into school and our costumed workshop leaders will give you a day full of fun activities and hands-on experiences.

Meet a Roman legionary and a Celtic Queen
Investigate weapons and armour, and take part in a battle
Daily life and how you might live as a Celt or Roman

Mosaics and art
Engineering: Aqueducts, running water and under-floor heating
Gods and mythology
Towns and cities, place names and roads
Roman numerals
