Students will experience first-hand the benefits of active outdoor living for physical and mental health when out coasteering, kayaking, surfing, SUPing or climbing.
Our immersive, experiential programmes link adventure and impact problem solving that help pupils find meaning and inspiration whilst building the ‘backpack skills’ for a lifetime of adventurous play.
Through our Adventure programmes we connect with multi-subject outcomes from any syllabus ensuring that your students are learning valuable life skills that they can transfer back to the classroom , all whilst having fun!
We'll use the session time to build on 'north star goals', backpack life skills and focus the importance of learning outside the classroom and becoming immersed into the natural world, as they put their learning into practice in one of the most dynamic environments on the planet.
Our interactive and engaging sessions will explore food literacy, food citizenship and food systems change, enabling learners to gain a holistic understanding of the importance of a resilient, thriving and circular food system as well as the challenges and issues facing the food system.
With trips to the Grub Kitchen, their research investigates how they can farm to feed a growing population and look after wildlife at the same time.
The setting of the majority of our sessions is on the wild west coast of Pembrokeshire which is teaming with a diverse range of wildlife. On your travels you can see seals, sea birds, porpoise, jellyfish, sea anemones, crustaceans and other rock pool creatures. We'll discuss their importance in the longevity of the ecosystem and what restraints we face in keeping these intact.
We run our coastal craft sessions where we forage for various edible seaweeds along the coastline as well as crafting up "bread on a stick" to toast on the camp fire. We use Kelly kettles fuelled with driftwood to make hot chocolates on the beach too!
These sessions help to teach students valuable outdoor skills that will be useful in years to come. Working in teams and developing social skills can help students become more confident in their abilities.
We have been teaching watersports since the '80s along the Pembrokeshire coast and have got out activity sessions nailed. With expert guides and small groups, students can learn a variety of watersports while keeping toasty warm in our quality kit.
Closely linking with wildlife sessions we can offer the pupils a rockpool safari session which will spend time closely inspecting the inhabitants of our coastline. We can take time to view the ecosystem, discuss biodiversity and how to conserve and enhance these beautiful locations with the help of a better understanding of the flora and fauna of this coastline.
Sustainability and conservation will always be at the heart of the TYF mission on a broader spectrum.
Giving the pupils the opportunity to see first hand how their actions can impact the spaces around them we can spend time on the coastline and surrounding areas to open important dialogue on topics such as Ocean Literacy, Blue Health, Carbon Literacy, Sustainable Development Goals and Systems thinking. This can include, Clean water and sanitation, Affordable clean energy and responsible consumption and production.
St David's is a hub for local history!
St. David is the patron saint of Wales, he was said to have been born on a cliff top on the South-West Wales coast during a fierce storm which is one of the main sites for our coasteering sessions. The site of David’s birth is marked by the ruin of an ancient chapel and holy well which can be visited on foot just a short walk from our adventure hub location.
We can run a whole day of cultural experiences including the cathedral and the Bishop's Palace. We can take the pupils on a boat trip around the coast to learn more history about the location whilst also admiring the beauty of the peninsula.
This interactive and thought-provoking workshop will explore the background to Ocean Literacy and sustainability what it is and why it is important, whilst linking this into the growing Blue Health movement giving learners an overview of why and how blue space is good for our health and wellbeing. Furthermore, challenges facing the ocean will be explored and how we can collectively overcome these challenges as actively engaged ocean citizens.
We can also focus on Carbon Literacy and the Circular Economy model which gives the pupils an opportunity to broaden their knowledge on the subjects that will only continue to become more prevalent in their every day life.
With our Bivvy and Campcraft Sessions, Gauntlet and High Energy Games we can be sure to cover all bases to get a group working together in harmony.
Not only do we offer specific Team Building sessions but it is woven in to all of our outdoor activites, whether it's working together as a team to kayak along the coast or spurring on those less confident swimmers and giving your all to ensure your team build the best bivvy at camp night, we can assure you that your students will leave their trip with a huge sense of achievement for both themselves and their classmates.
Yes TYF have always been produ to adapt to any needs of each individual student. We offer 1-1 guiding for students with physical and special educational needs.
