The Education Department supports and enriches classroom practice through a variety of services and events, designed to extend knowledge and understanding of modern and contemporary art and to bring art into the lives of our visitors. Through encouraging pupils and teachers to engage with the different types of artwork on display, we wish to promote confidence in being in the gallery environment and self-confidence in personal interpretations of art.
Education at Tate St Ives offers a range of services for schools and colleges including the provision of free resources for a self directed visit, tailor made tours and artist-led practical sessions
We believe that working alongside
artists, surrounded by art works, is an invaluable way of encouraging students to think creatively and independently. Sessions are designed to enable individuals to engage with art as a current cultural practice, to explore new and challenging ideas, and to integrate new methods into their own work.
All group activities are available for full classes or more working in groups of up to 20.
Tate St Ives always has qualified First Aiders on duty during opening hours.
There is an accessible ramp at Tate St Ives suitable for wheelchairs.
Three wheelchairs are available at Tate St Ives. You can either book them in advance, or ask a member of staff on arrival.
We welcome guide dogs and hearing dogs in the gallery.
Tate St Ives is able to offer visiting education groups the unique facility of presenting modern art in a building of outstanding architectural design, set in an area known for its inspirational landscape and in the context of the artistic heritage of St Ives.
