Inventors & Makers
Engage and inspire EYFS-KS2 with STEM with our expert-led, hands-on workshops covering engineering, inventing, coding, and more.

Inventors & Makers will have a collection of brand new workshops for British Science Week 2026 for use with N-Y6. The workshops link to the 2026 theme 'Curiosity...what's your question?' Explore our range of workshops linked to curiosity, from our brand new Understanding AI workshops, to our tried and tested workshops developing curiosity in engineering and design.

Design Technology Our workshops for KS1 and KS2 are linked to many areas of the Design & Technology curriculum, including engineering structures, mechanisms and the design process itself. We'll help your pupils understand the importance of DT to the world around us and how they can design, invent, engineer and build themselves.
Our Little STEAMers workshops and classes for EYFS cover a range of topics linked to D&T on engineering and building.
Computing Our workshops for KS2 link to several areas of the ICT as well as the Design & Technology curriculum.
Workshops can cover Video Game Design, Stop Motion Animation, thinking about systems and designing for a user, as well as Coding & Robotics designing moon landers, pedometers and games.
PSHE We teach through the Engineering Superpowers: problem solving, communication, collaboration and creative thinking!
All of our workshops use these skills and encourage children to become more resilient and confident in their own ideals and abilities.
It's impossible to be an engineer without learning to overcome failure and develop a growth mindset. We focus on many other aspects including teamwork, cooperation as part of our workshops.
We also introduce children to a diverse range of Inventors & Engineers through our workshops and assemblies.
Physics We produce dedicated KS1 and KS2 workshops for British Science Week every year and our full range of workshops covers a variety of topics including aviation and rollercoasters, linking closely to the National Curriculum targets.
Little STEAMers classes and workshops for EYFS cover a range of physics topics in an age-appropriate way such as ramps, planes and even gravity!
Chemistry We believe in turning tiny hands and curious minds into tomorrow's STEM Heroes - one discovery at a time.
Our Little STEAMers classes and workshops for EYFS cover chemistry topics (e.g. chemical reactions, properties, states of mater, reactions) in an age-appropriate way ask for more details. We demonstrate then encourage the children to have a go.
Engineering At Inventors & Makers, we believe every child should grow up seeing themselves as an inventor and engineer - inspired today to shape the world of tomorrow.
Building future-proof skills like problem-solving and teamwork, we also teach children to love engineering and creativity, helping your school become a bedrock for thriving futures in STEM.
Inventors and Inventions We imagine a world where every child grows up a STEM Hero - confident they can invent, engineer, and shape a better future.
We start by inspiring them today by introducing the children to a diverse range of Inventors and Engineers from throughout history, including the present.
Our STEM Hero resources are available free on our website. Some of these are additional to the ones we use in workshops and assemblies.
Yes, we are experienced teachers who are familiar with teaching a range of individual needs and who undergo the Silver SEND/ASN Inclusion Training from the Friendly SEND Advisor.
We have a SEND specialist on our team and a consultant who both work to adapt our workshops for schools.
Laura Cross set up Inventors & Makers in 2019 with a mission to help prepare today's children for tomorrow's world.
She originally trained as a lawyer and worked in the city for a few years before finding her true calling in education and teaching in some of London's Outstanding primary schools.
However, it was during her time leading curriculum design at a San Francisco education technology company that she started to think about the world of work that lies ahead for our children.
"We don't know what the jobs of the future will be, but we do know that our children will need to be adaptable, flexible and creative problem solvers."
Susie McAuley joined the company in early 2022 as lead teacher, delivering after-school clubs and workshops to schools in person and contributing to the development of virtual clubs, classes and workshops.
Susie has been teaching for more than 30 years in schools in the UK and all over the world. She has been a computing lead and STEM coordinator as well as a class teacher so she knows exactly how to deliver what teachers are looking for.
We have welcomed several Inventioneers into our group who can now offer in-person workshops in the Tyneside, Reading, Haywards Heath, and Oxford areas.

As teachers, we spend years researching and then inviting visitors into our classrooms - STEM specialists, sports coaches, theatre groups etc. You might have sometimes wondered: What would it be like to do that job instead? For many, the idea of stepping out of the classroom but staying in education is hugely appealing. You still get to inspire children and work with schools, but without marking piles, late-night planning or endless meetings and data drops. That's why more and more teachers are looking at education franchises in the UK as a flexible next step.
