Inventors & Makers Computing Workshops

School Workshop

Latest News: 6th March 2026
Happy British Science Week! We'll be getting curious about how AI works in our brand new workshops, available in-person or online.

trip icon Engage and inspire EYFS-KS2 with computing with our expert-led, hands-on workshops.

Designed to fit in with your curriculum, our workshops strengthen pupils' grasp of core computing concepts. Our qualified teachers come to your school and bring everything we need to give your children engaging and practical experiences. We ask that you provide your own school computers to use with our equipment.

- Tailored to Your School

Tell us what you're learning, and our qualified teachers will weave these topics into their workshops where possible.

- Expert Led

Our qualified and experienced primary teachers know how to connect teaching to the curriculum, and deliver workshops that inspire and engage.

- Easy Set Up

We do all the hard work for you! Booking is quick and simple, and prep time is minimal.

What activities are available during this school workshop?

A variety of workshops are available, each giving pupils the chance to take part in engaging practical activities to design and build using their own ideas.

Workshops include:
- British Science Week 2026: Our brand new Understanding AI workshops, or explore our range of workshops below, many of which have an element linked to curiosity.
- Engineering with Energy & the Environment (for EY, KS1 & KS2)
- Coding and Video Game Design (for Y4-6)
- Coding & Robotics (for KS1 & KS2)
- Coding & Games (for LKS2)
- Coding Unplugged (for EY, KS1 & KS2)

- Assemblies are also available to support the workshops.

- Teachers CPD including Engineering in the Classroom, using micro:bits, Crumbles and AI.

Which curriculum topics do we cater for?

Computing

Robotics Coding Information and Communications Technology Game Design Encryption Decryption Algorythms and data Artificial Intelligence Animation

Our workshops for KS2 link to several areas of the ICT as well as the Design & Technology curriculum.

Workshops can cover Video Game Design, Stop Motion Animation and AI- thinking about systems and designing for a user, as well as Coding & Robotics designing moon landers, pedometers and games.

Sustainability

Renewable Energy

We aim to work as sustainably as possible. We aim to use recycled products where possible and recycle where possible too.

Our workshops about Sustainable Energy cover the use of Fossil Fuels and the Invention of more sustainable ways of generating electricity. We are trying to inspire the Engineers of the Future to continue to develop ideas of how we can be a more sustainable species.

Design Technology

Mechanics and engineering Electronics Architecture

We believe in inspiring every child to see themselves as an inventor and engineer, so they grow up knowing they can shape their world.

Research shows that children form stereotypes about STEM and engineering early on, so we create hands-on, creative experiences that show them from the very youngest age, not only what engineering is, but that it could be for them.

Inventors and Inventions

We imagine a world where every child grows up a STEM Hero - confident they can invent, engineer, and shape a better future. And we start by inspiring them today by introducing them, within our workshops and assemblies, to inventors from all over the world, from a range of backgrounds and time spans in human history.

What size groups do we cater for?

Our in-person workshops are designed for a class of up to 32 children.

Access for visitors with disabilities

Yes. We are experienced teachers who are familiar with teaching a range of needs. We have run several workshop sessions in schools with specific needs.

Visitors with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

We are experienced teachers who are familiar with teaching a range of individual needs and who undergo the Silver SEND/ASN Inclusion Training from the Friendly SEND Advisor.

We have a SEND specialist on our team and a consultant who both work to adapt our workshops for schools.

Anything else?

We also publish a weekly STEM Hero or 'Inventor & Maker of the Week' available on Social media or through email (contains material to use in your classroom), focusing on Inventors and Engineers who you might not be familiar with. Sign up on our website.

Who are Inventors & Makers?

Laura Cross set up Inventors & Makers in 2019 with a mission to help prepare today's children for tomorrow's world.

She originally trained as a lawyer and worked in the city for a few years before finding her true calling in education and teaching in some of London's Outstanding primary schools,

However, it was during her time leading curriculum design at a San Francisco education technology company that she started to think about the world of work that lies ahead for our children.
"We don't know what the jobs of the future will be, but we do know that our children will need to be adaptable, flexible and creative problem solvers."

Susie McAuley joined the company in early 2022 as lead teacher, delivering after-school clubs and workshops to schools in person and contributing to development of virtual clubs, classes and workshops.

Susie has been teaching for more than 30 years in schools in the UK and all over the world. She has been a computing lead and STEM coordinator as well as a class teacher so she knows exactly how to deliver what teachers are looking for. She covers schools booking in Hampshire, Surrey, London, Kent, West Sussex and anywhere her campervan can get to!

We have welcomed several Inventioneers into our group who can now offer in-person workshops in the Tyneside, Reading and Haywards Heath areas.
