Engage and inspire EYFS-KS2 with computing with our expert-led, hands-on workshops.
We can visit your school in: London & South East, East of England
Our workshops align with key areas of the Computing and Design & Technology curriculum, supporting schools to deliver engaging, hands-on learning and meet physical computing objectives.
Children can explore Coding & Robotics, Video Game Design, Stop Motion Animation, Artificial Intelligence, and Coding Unplugged, developing programming, computational thinking, and digital creativity through practical projects and real-world problem-solving. We can support progression across the whole school, offering age-appropriate experiences and skill development from Nursery to Year 6.
Our workshops about Sustainable Energy cover the use of Fossil Fuels and the Invention of more sustainable ways of generating electricity. We are trying to inspire the Engineers of the Future to continue to develop ideas of how we can be a more sustainable species.
We aim to work as sustainably as possible. We aim to use recycled products where possible and recycle where possible too.
We believe in inspiring every child to see themselves as an inventor and engineer, so they grow up knowing they can shape their world.
Research shows that children form stereotypes about STEM and engineering early on, so we create hands-on, creative experiences that show them from the very youngest age, not only what engineering is, but that it could be for them.
We imagine a world where every child grows up a STEM Hero - confident they can invent, engineer, and shape a better future. And we start by inspiring them today by introducing them, within our workshops and assemblies, to inventors from all over the world, from a range of backgrounds and time spans in human history.
In this hands-on KS2 Romans engineering workshop, we explore some of the incredible structures built by the Romans and the engineering ideas behind them.
Children investigate how Roman engineers designed strong, lasting structures before taking part in practical challenges to build their own Roman-inspired columns and aqueducts.
We are experienced teachers who are familiar with teaching a range of individual needs and who undergo the Silver SEND/ASN Inclusion Training from the Friendly SEND Advisor.
We have extensive experience adapting our workshops to meet the needs of individual schools and pupils. Our team includes a SEND specialist, and we also work alongside a SEND classroom consultant to help ensure our workshops are inclusive, accessible and engaging for all learners.
Laura Cross set up Inventors & Makers in 2019 with a mission to help prepare today's children for tomorrow's world.
She originally trained as a lawyer and worked in the city for a few years before finding her true calling in education and teaching in some of London's Outstanding primary schools,
However, it was during her time leading curriculum design at a San Francisco education technology company that she started to think about the world of work that lies ahead for our children.
"We don't know what the jobs of the future will be, but we do know that our children will need to be adaptable, flexible and creative problem solvers."
Susie McAuley joined the company in early 2022 as lead teacher, delivering after-school clubs and workshops to schools in person and contributing to development of virtual clubs, classes and workshops.
Susie has been teaching for more than 30 years in schools in the UK and all over the world. She has been a computing lead and STEM coordinator as well as a class teacher so she knows exactly how to deliver what teachers are looking for. She covers schools booking in Hampshire, Surrey, London, Kent, West Sussex and anywhere her campervan can get to!
We have welcomed several Inventioneers into our group who can now offer in-person workshops in the Tyneside, Reading and Haywards Heath areas.
As teachers, we spend years researching and then inviting visitors into our classrooms - STEM specialists, sports coaches, theatre groups etc. You might have sometimes wondered: What would it be like to do that job instead? For many, the idea of stepping out of the classroom but staying in...
