trip icon We specialise in developing character, bringing topics to life, and helping young people to recognise what they are capable of.

Set in 43 acres of private woodland, gardens and fields, Edgmond Hall Centre for Outdoor Learning is a perfect base for KS1, KS2 and Y7 children to safely explore and to try new things in a supportive environment.

We are part of a family of 4 residential centres owned by Sandwell Council, and we deliver memorable learning experiences through outdoor exploration, adventure, and creative arts.

Resilience and coping (including mindfulness), working together, wellbeing, belonging.

We explore how being in nature makes children feel; linking with 5 Ways to Wellbeing, reflecting / stillness in nature / sights, smells, sounds, feelings, shared experiences and belonging, reflection and review time.

Biology School Trip


Plants Animals including humans Living things and habitats Life Cycles Minibeasts Habitats

Exploring the senses, habitats, plant and tree structures, common native species, sustainability, minibeasts, British mammals, seasonal changes, Life cycles and food chains / webs.

Physical Geography School Trip


Fieldwork Water cycles

Biodiversity, species variation, transects, basic field study skills, soil types.


What size groups do we cater for?

Maximum 60 - working in groups of up to 15.

We have a brilliant, private grounds, with space to play and explore. You may decide to build in an opportunity for children to have the freedom to play during your day. We would discuss your requirements and the exact outline and content of the day to best meet your needs, when planning the day together.

Who are Edgmond Hall?

This day visit can be tailored in many ways, and uses experiential learning to undertake a combination of activities such as: -

* explore the different natural habitats (woodland, meadow, hedgerow, pond)
* nature walk with time to stop, be still in nature, and use the senses (Science, PSHE/ SEMH)
* collect nature items along the walk (scavenger hunt, leaf / seed bingo, colour wheels) or complete a Nature Trail, Tree explore, use plant / flower spotting sheets, and look at animal home / nest building (Science)
* Use hoops / quadrats or doing a transect to count species diversity working in small groups to collect data - Geography (Y5/6/7)
* Minibeast hunting / Pond dipping (seasonal activities) - Science all ages.
* Food chain / web game, active game to explore food chains.
* Exploring how being in nature makes children feel, linking with 5 ways to wellbeing, reflecting / stillness in nature / sights, smells, sounds, feelings, shared experiences and belonging, reflection and review time (PSHE / SEMH)
