Rivers Water cycles Fieldwork Mountains

Click to read full text The Highlands boast breathtaking scenery – majestic mountains, deep lochs (including the famous Loch Ness!), rugged coastlines, and vast glens. Students can study glaciated landscapes, erosion, landforms, and ecosystems. The diverse landscapes support various ecosystems, from moorland and forests to freshwater lochs, offering opportunities to study biodiversity. The dramatic and relatively accessible landscapes are ideal for various types of geographical fieldwork, such as measuring river characteristics, conducting environmental quality surveys and sketching and photographing landforms. The sheer scale and beauty of the Highlands make geographical concepts more tangible and memorable. Seeing a U-shaped valley in person has a much greater impact than just seeing a picture.
