Barcelona Study Tours
Spain / Barcelona
Barcelona, home to arguably the best Football team in the world, has vast amounts to offer for visiting school groups and due to it's cross-curricular offerings is extremely popular with Primary, Secondary and University Students.
From Football to Fashion, Barcelona truly has something for all. For example Geography students can visit the city centre to observe it's urban regeneration and redevelopment, head to Garrotxa National Park to study Ecosystems or simply head down to the Beach to take part in a few coastal studies.
That being said, the majority of pupils heading to Barcelona or the Catalonia region are looking to study Art, History and the Spanish language, which is all beautifully intertwined throughout the city.
Your education visit can start by heading to one of the cities lovely language schools where your students can engage in a number of immersive Spanish workshops.
Now that your students are fluent is Spanish (Okay, maybe a bit ambitious), you can head out to see some of the cities main attractions, such as the world-famous Sagrada Famíliawhere construction began over 136 years ago and still continues to this day.
Barcelona has an excellent network of open top double decker tour buses, where you can hop on and hop anywhere off throughout the city. This means that your Art students can be dropped off at the Whimsical Parc Güell, which was designed by Antoni Gaudi in the early 1900's, to explore the multi coloured mosaic work in the scorching Spanish sun, visit the Picasso museum or even be dropped off in the Gothic quarter to admire a few of it's architectural wonders. You will never be short of ideas!
If your students are more focused around sports/adventure you may wish to start your day off with a tour of the Nou Camp Stadium, the home of FC Barcelona, where you you learn all about the Heritage and History of the club. Next you could visit one of the local adventure parks such as PortAventura Amusement Park, the Costa Caribe Aquatic Park or even head over to Ferrari Land to experience some adrenaline filled fun!
Here are a few additional curriculum linked ideas
Maths – Visit the Barcelona Stock Exchange for a numerical inspired tour
STEM – Head to the CosmoCaixam, an incredible Science Museum
Music – Listen to Choirs, Orchestras and Bands in some of the cities best Cathedrals, Church's and even on the Beach resorts in the summer
Biology – Head down to Port Vell and explore L'Aquarium Barcelona, the largest aquarium in Europe with over 450 different species
Moving on to the evening there is still huge amounts to partake in across the city. Your students could experience the Catalan culture with an evening of Flamenco, explore the Las Ramblas tasting tapas, browsing the market stalls and watching the street performers, or our personal favourite you could head to the The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc! You will need to check the performance times but this illuminated fountain performs to a variety of Music including film, classic and modern songs! It's a once in a lifetime awe-inspiring experience.
All in all Barcelona is a glorious destination for school trips and being only a 2-3 hours flight away from the UK makes it perfect for a short overseas educational visit.
