Geography Trip To The Azores School Trip
Sweet Chariot
We offer a fantastic bespoke school geography tour package to the Azores, enabling schools to build their perfect itinerary which compliments the school curriculum and gives students a chance to experience first-hand, the geographical phenomena that they are learning about in the classroom. Located atop a triple junction of tectonic plates, the archipelago provides firsthand experience of caldera lakes, fumaroles, lava tunnels, and geothermal energy production
Students will explore caldera lakes, such as Sete Cidades, and experience geothermal activity directly at hot springs and fumaroles in Furnas. The island also offers dramatic coastal scenery featuring volcanic basalt cliffs, sea arches, stacks, and black sand beaches.
The Azores are a prime example of sustainable tourism and renewable energy, with visits to geothermal and hydroelectric plants showing how volcanic activity is harnessed. Beyond the rocks, students can study unique flora, explore tea plantations, and witness aquaculture, including pineapple farming.

Day 1
Fly from London to Ponta Delgada.
Check in to 3* Hotel on half board basis.
Explore historic city, marina and historic gates.
Day 2
Visit Vista do Rei viewpoint & Sete Cidades Lakes to explore the volcanic crater lakes and views.
Afternoon at Mosteiros Beach and discovering the underground lava tube system at Gruta do Carvão Lava Tube.
Day 3
Explore the geothermal fumaroles hot springs at Furnas Valley.
Afternoon at Poça da Dona Beija or Terra Nostra Park, which includes Furnas Cozido lunch, a traditional geothermal stew, before visiting the thermal baths.
Return to hotel with stop at Pico do Ferro Viewpoint.
Day 4
Morning visit to Gorreana or Porto Formoso Tea Plantation, where you will enjoy a tasting of locally grown Azorean tea while learning about traditional cultivation and production methods.
This afternoon will take you to the North coast and Ribeira dos Caldeirões Waterfalls.
Day 5
Morning visit to Caldeira Velha Thermal Baths and Lagoa do Fogo Viewpoint.
This afternoon visit a geothermal or hydroelectric power station, followed by a tour of the Augusto Arruda Pineapple Plantation.
Day 6
Breakfast and check out of your rooms.
Depart on your flight back to the UK.
