This is an 8 day, 7 night experience where students will immerse themselves in Finnish wilderness culture, building igloos, mastering winter sports, and connecting with local communities. The remote Kuusamo location provides fantastic opportunities to see the Northern Lights if they are on display.

Our exclusive Finnish cultural immersion programme gives real value to students and staff with direct impact on environmental awareness and cultural understanding - providing authentic experiences that develop resilience, teamwork and global citizenship.


  • Flights to Kuusamo Airport (KAO) - return flights arranged separately
  • All local transfers including airport pickup
  • Optional winter clothing rental package - thermal layers, boots, gloves, hats

Sample itinerary:

Day 1 - Arrival Day (Thursday 23 January)

  • Evening arrival at Kuusamo (KAO) airport
  • Meet Adventure Apes guide and 30-minute transfer to Lodge
  • Settling in, dinner and comprehensive adventure briefing
  • Accommodation: Adventure Apes Lodge - renovated former school in countryside setting


Days 2-7 - Key Themes: Cultural Exchange, Environment, Adventure, Teamwork, Learning

  • Days follow structured rhythm: morning adventure (3 hours), afternoon adventure (3 hours), optional evening activities
  • All activities designed for hands-on learning with nature as the classroom
  • Professional guides lead all activities with comprehensive safety protocols
  • Activities continue regardless of weather - authentic Arctic experience guaranteed


Alongside daily adventures, Days 2-7 will include:

  • Wilderness skills: Igloo construction over two days, traditional kota gatherings around fireplace
  • Students will visit local Finnish school and share lessons with Finnish students
  • Students will experience authentic sauna culture and Finnish language lessons
  • Teacher led activities during downtime: games nights, reflection sessions, cultural discussions
  • Cross-country skiing instruction and guided tours through forests and frozen lakes
  • Downhill skiing day trip to world-class Ruka Ski Centre
  • Choice of snowshoeing adventure or ice skating (group decision)
  • Relaxation at local spa with swimming and jacuzzi facilities
  • The Lodge location in Kuusamo wilderness is *exceptional* for seeing the Northern Lights
  • Optional night sleeping in self-built igloo with professional winter sleeping gear


Day 8 - Reflection & Departure (Thursday 30 January)

  • Breakfast and final reflection session on week's learnings
  • Farewell activities and group photos
  • Transfer to Kuusamo airport for departure flights
  • Return flights to home country (arranged separately)

Yes! Whilst snow presents considerations, this is one of our most adaptable winter programs. We work closely with schools to accommodate most needs and ensure every student can participate meaningfully in this Arctic adventure.

Absolutely! Our location and approach are outstanding for SEN learners. We've successfully welcomed numerous high-needs schools, adapting activities to ensure every student thrives in Finland's inspiring wilderness classroom.
