Cardiff Castle is a unique site with 2000 years of history. It was started in the 1st Century AD by the Romans who built the original fort. In the 11th century, the Normans constructed the Keep that still dominates the Castle Green. The medieval Lords of Glamorgan began work on the House during the 15th Century but it was the Bute family in the 19th Century who transformed the House into the opulent Victorian gothic home it is today. A visit to the Castle can satisfy a wide variety of areas of the National Curriculum, both for Wales and England.
When visiting, it is possible to address all of the Common Requirements of the curriculum and it's an ideal way to apply Y Curriculum Cymreig. In addition, foundation stage classes will find the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world, look at people's lives and further their creative development.

What size groups do we cater for?
The Educational Centre and our Guided Tours can accommodate groups of up to 35.
Is there first aid on site?
There are a number of trained first aiders on site who have access to fully equipped portable first aid bags
Access for visitors with disabilities
Wheelchair access is possible to the Education Centre, Undercroft, Interpretation Centre, Caffi�r Castell, Firing Line Military Museum, Wartime Tunnels and Battlements. Access to the main building and Keep involves many steps.

To make the most of your visit, we recommend that you take advantage of a free familiarisation before you come with your group. We thoroughly recommend this.
