Tudor Globe Theatre Workshop
Architecture Workshops
Architecture Workshops
Quick Overview - This Tudors themed school workshop will introduce your pupils to Shakespeare's famous Globe Theatre in a unique and novel way. Combining history, mathematics, design and technology, problem solving and teamwork, your class will work individually and collaboratively to construct an impressive 3 metre high, and 4 metre wide replica of the Globe Theatre using only dowels and rubber bands to build strong structures. Bring the Elizabethan era to life and reinforce key STEM concepts, like maths and triangulation in engineering and architecture. What makes this workshop truly unique is its experiential approach to teaching about the Tudors - actively recreating the historic theatre with real hands-on learning.

Maths is used throughout the construction of the structure. Because we use nothing more than dowel and rubber bands in all of our unique workshops the importance of triangulation in making all other two dimensional shapes strong is key in all the structures we build.
Construction Elements Included, where pupils have to follow instructions together to form the structure, so need to help and guide one another to ensure a successful build. We demonstrate how simple materials can be used to make strong structures
Problem solving and resilience are endemic in all of our workshops, but particularly in the STEAM orientated ones, like Bridge, Maths & Design, Shelters, Skyscrapers, Olympic Sculptures. Pupils Work individually, in groups and altogether to create one large structure, or remaining in groups make their own structure. e.g. bridge, shelter, sculpture. The teamwork and resilience needed helps develop pupils cooperative intelligence.
The world famous Globe Theatre is recreated by pupils, working individually in groups and altogether using nothing more than dowel and rubber bands. They imagine being a 'groudling' watching a play and the rowdiness that was common place during the performances. They learn about the construction of the theatre and the special effects that were used at the time.
We are happy to work with SEN pupils who are part of a class, but if the percentage is greater than 25% we may have to adjust the total number accordingly. Likewise we can run workshops at specialist schools with smaller numbers.
Workshops need to take place in the school dining hall, gym or sports hall. All the structure are dismantled as part of the workshop experience, so we are able to be out of dining halls in time for the catering staff to put out tables, which if necessary we will assist with.
Photographs are permitted of the workshops, so please ensure batteries in your cameras are fully charged. Video recording of the workshop process is strictly prohibited, as the processes of the workshops are covered by our copyright, but you may video your pupils during the activity.
