Cairngorms Activities School Trip

Bushcraft and camp skills with Cairngorms Activities are all about learning to be equipped and comfortable outdoors in an interesting and hands-on way. Providing life changing skills from building shelters and fire lighting, to foraging and tracking. Highlighting shared learning, environmental awareness and skills development.

Cairngorms Activities have a Bunkhouse and Bothy situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. If you are looking to use the accommodation as a base to explore the national park and the nearby Cairngorm Mountains then this is the perfect place for a stop over. They have 25 beds in the Bunkhouse and 6 beds in the Bothy. Camping can also be available on request depending on the time of year.

As well as offering a wide variety of fun and inclusive challenges, Cairngorms Activities can provide students with lots of opportunities to learn skills, realise their own limits and how to support those with different limits.

This could be anything from problem-solving or simply knowing how to tie a knot. They can tailor their activities to meet your aims and the desired learning outcomes for your group.
Not sure about heights or water? Sometimes the idea of being at height or around water can create anxiety for some, but Cairngorms Activities have plenty of tricks up their sleeve to make sure that they can adapt roles, sessions and groups so people can work at their own levels, yet be stretched just a little more when they're ready! It's very much challenge by choice!

As well as hosting school groups for outdoor activity-based residentials, our bunkhouse accommodation is also used by school, college and university groups as an accommodation and classroom base for field trips. Whether you are a hiking group or mountaineering, Cairngorms Activities are happy to welcome all adventure groups.

Cairngorms Activities' experiences are not readily available within most school environments. Physical education isn't just limited to standard school sports activities. Outdoor activities have often been credited with sparking interest and inspiring children who don't see themselves as sporty; to try more, do more, and achieve physically. With all the same learning outcomes of regular sports, outdoor activities are a leveller regardless of academic or physical ability.

Activities will always be delivered with the right mix of action and holistic reflection at Cairngorms Activities. Their educational matrix illustrates an activity's ability to link to learning outcomes such as applying and developing physical education and building on PHSE outcomes such as challenge, adventure, creativity, shared learning, social learning and environmental awareness, utilising NOLA (National Outdoor Learning Award).

Located beside the River Spey and with a calm paddling pond on site, Cairngorms Activities canoeing and kayaking bases offer up wonderful locations to explore. Head downstream, explore and learn how to navigate the river, work as a team, as well as learning fundamental paddling techniques and skills. All of their canoeing and kayaking sessions are expertly guided by their knowledgeable activity instructors.

Sessions can be tailored for fun and skills development working towards the BC Paddle Start award. Not sure about water? There's an abundance of wildlife within the beautiful Cairngorms National Park and Cairngorms Activities are well-placed nestled amoungs the hills. Opportunities for investigation of the River Spey, forestry, woodland and remote highlands habitats are available on-site or within 20-minute drive. These are facilitated through small group team activities with individual challenges.
