Quick Overview - Taking your class to this venue is a fantastic way to get them excited about cycling while helping them build their proficiency skills in a fun and safe environment. There are lots of different sessions tailored for all ages and abilities, from younger kids learning the basics to older students trying out BMX, road riding, or even track cycling on the velodrome. The venue has impressive facilities (a legacy from the 2012 London Olympics!), the perfect place to learn, have fun, and feel confident on their bikes.Our British Cycling‑qualified coaches help pupils master the fundamentals of cycling from cornering and braking to confident bike handling - through fun, engaging sessions designed to build skills and inspire a lifelong love of cycling.
We offer a range of workshops, including Pedal Up, Velodrome Track, BMX, Road Cycling, Mountain Biking and venue tours, giving students the chance to experience everything from the Olympic velodrome to outdoor circuits and trails.
In these workshops, students explore the FUNdamentals of cycling, learn how different disciplines work, and discover the legacy of the London 2012 Games and how world class venues continue to support sport and community.
They take part in coached activities tailored to their age and ability, rotating through skills, games and riding experiences that build confidence and physical literacy. This helps them understand safe cycling techniques, how to navigate different terrains, and the values of teamwork, communication and resilience.
Teachers choose this because it offers a unique learning experience in an iconic Olympic venue, delivered by British Cycling‑qualified instructors, with structured progression and all equipment provided - making planning simple and ensuring high quality, curriculum aligned learning.
On the day, students are fitted with bikes and helmets, assessed by coaches, and guided through a series of practical sessions, while teachers supervise off track areas. With small group sizes of up to 16, every pupil receives focused support and an unforgettable introduction to the world of cycling.
What activities are available during educational visits?
Pedal Up
Pedal Up school sessions offer a fun mix of games and activities designed to help pupils master the FUNdamentals of cycling including: cornering, braking, and bike handling. The focus is on building confidence, developing skills, and most importantly, having fun! Sessions also include mini versions of the main cycling disciplines available at the venue.
Students in year 5 or below will have their session in our Track Centre. Students in year 6 or above will have their sessions outside on our Road Circuit to allow for extra space.
Age: 5 - 11 years
Each Group Size: maximum of 16 students
Velodrome Track
Aimed at introducing track cycling to students in year 7 or above. Students will be taught skills on both the Track Centre as well as the Olympic Track. All students need basic experience of riding a bike. The coach will be responsible for students on the track, with the school teacher responsible for students on the Track Centre.
Age: 11 - 18 years old (minimum rider height 145cm / 4ft 9in)
Each Group Size: maximum of 16 students
BMX
Aimed at introducing BMX cycling to students in year 3 or above. As well as riding on the remodelled BMX track, the secondary practice track can be utilised by students under teacher supervision. All students need basic experience of riding a bike. Students will be supervised by the coach on the track, whilst the rest of the class are supervised by a school teacher.
Age: 7 - 18 years old (minimum rider height 127cm / 4ft 2in)
Each Group Size: maximum of 16 students
Road
Aimed at introducing road cycling to students in year 6 or above. Depending on ability, students can ride in groups or as a single pack. All students need basic experience of riding a bike. Students will ride the circuit with either a coach, and/or cycling competent school teacher on a road or MTB bike.
Age: 10 - 18 years old (minimum rider height 135cm / 4ft 5in)
Each Group Size: maximum of 16 students
Mountain Bike
We'll devise a series of trail sessions for students in year 6 or above, which will help students to become safe, competent riders. All students need basic experience of riding a bike. Students will ride with both a coach and cycling competent school teacher. One cycling competent teacher must ride (mandatory).
Age: 10 - 18 years old (minimum rider height 135cm / 4ft 5in)
Each Group Size: maximum of 16 students
Tour Of The Venue
We also offer a tour and talk on Lee Valley VeloPark which will last one hour. It's a great way to understand the venue and its impact following the London 2012 Games.

We try and cater for as many groups as possible. If we do not have the correct equipment, we partner with a local charity who has specifics bikes and may be able to offer an alternative provision.

Delivered by fully qualified National Governing Body (NGB) licensed coaches, our sessions are designed to build confidence, develop physical skills and encourage a lifelong love of sport.
We offer activities at a venues welcoming students across London, Hertfordshire and Essex as well as further afield, working with students in Key Stages 2 (ages 7-11), 3 (ages 12-14), and 4 (ages 14-16). Fantastic facilities, coupled with experienced and trained staff, ensure that students make the most of the sporting opportunities they take part in, whether it's a one-day experience or a multi-day experience.
