Launching in 2026, Puzzle Locker offers the UK's first immersive Roman escape room workshop.Using iPads and interactive puzzle mats, your class will journey back to Ancient Rome, competing in teams to solve puzzles, collect artefacts and uncover secrets of the past. In this thrilling one-hour experience, pupils will explore a Roman temple, step into a courtyard dedicated to Julius Caesar, and uncover priceless manuscripts in an ancient library.

What activities are available during this school workshop?
Our workshop days are designed to be shared between 3-4 KS2 classes. Each class or year group can select a theme to match their current topic. We currently have the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, and WW2, with Vikings, Space, and Tudors planned for the middle of 2026!
Each Puzzle Locker day includes the following activities:
1. Pre-Workshop Introduction (30 minutes)
Before the escape room adventure begins, teachers are provided with a classroom-based PowerPoint briefing. This includes tutorial videos, clear learning objectives, and background information to build excitement and prepare pupils for the challenge ahead.
2. The Escape Room Experience (60 minutes)
The main event takes place in the school hall. Each topic features three mini escape rooms, lasting approximately 12-15 minutes each. Every level is enquiry-based, encouraging pupils to work in teams to solve puzzles, collect artefacts, and unlock clues that help them answer their key question.
3. Follow-Up Resources (60 minutes)
To extend learning beyond the experience, every workshop comes with follow-up resource packs created by qualified teachers. These include word searches, crosswords, comprehension tasks, and maths challenges to reinforce the learning objectives in a fun, engaging way.

Click to read full text In this immersive Roman escape room, pupils are transported back to Ancient Rome to recover a lost map of the empire, restore three broken statues of Julius Caesar, and retrieve missing scrolls crucial to Rome's legacy.
The workshop is split into three themed mini escape room games, each built around a key enquiry question. Pupils work in teams to solve puzzles and collect artefacts to unlock new information and deepen their understanding of Roman civilisation.
Room 1: The Lost Map of Rome
An important map of the Roman Empire has been damaged, and your class must solve three puzzles to find the missing pieces and restore it!
Pupils will explore:
- Where the Romans came from
- The timeline of Roman civilisation
- How they expanded their empire and the places they conquered
Room 2: Restoring Caesar's Legacy
Three statues of Julius Caesar have been broken in this Roman courtyard, and your class must solve three puzzles to repair them!
In this room, your class will discover:
- Caesar's military conquests and rise to power
- His passion for writing and poetry
- His political ambitions and legacy
Room 3: The Lost Scrolls
Three ancient scrolls have vanished from a Roman library! Your class must solve three puzzles to retrieve them and return them to their rightful place.
Pupils will learn about:
- Roman numerals and their continued use today
- The influence of Latin on modern languages
- How the Romans introduced coins to Britain
What size groups do we cater for?
We work with 3-4 KS2 classes per day, and each class or year group can choose a workshop that fits their current topic.
Each escape room session in the school hall can accommodate up to 33 pupils at once. We provide 11 interactive puzzle mats and 11 iPads, with pupils working in teams of three to complete the challenges.
