Step into the 16th century, into the world of the Tudors. Queen Elizabeth is on the throne and the country is looking prosperous.
On the ground it can be a different story; for many, life can be hard and gruelling. Being rich though isn't all it’s cracked up to be, as your life is only comfortable for as long as you can keep your head on your shoulders.
You will need help if you want to navigate the muddy winding streets of the 16th century in safety.
Meet Christopher, he is a playwright, and he will be your guide to the time of the Tudors where the Wheel of Fortune is always turning!
Being a playwright means that Christopher is able to engage with members of society from all manner of classes, from the starving poor to the fancy-pants rich!
If you are really lucky then you will get to go to school. Going to school is a privilege not afforded to many at this time and so getting an education makes you stand out among the rest.
Disease and illness are rife and can sweep through the country with hardly any warning. If you do get sick though, it's good to know that you have options. None of these options are free though, but even if you can afford to go to the doctor, would you even want to?
While moving around, try to stay in groups, there are thieves and bandits lying in wait for unsuspecting and ill-prepared travellers. If those thieves get caught though, the punishment could be quite severe. In the absence of modern leisurely conveniences, you may like to head on down to the marketplace with your family and watch some of that punishment being administered. For many (not least the prisoner) it can be quite the day out!
So, prepare yourself, for the time of the Tudors!
