Ancient Greeks Experience Day Workshop

Classroom Adventures

School Workshop

trip icon Today, you're stepping back over 2,500 years - into the world of the Ancient Greeks.

As the day begins, you'll be welcomed by Demodocus, a hoplite soldier, who introduces you to life in an Athenian household. Here, you'll discover that not everyone in Ancient Greece lived the same life. You'll meet members of a wealthy family and explore how age, gender, and status shaped daily life - including the lives of enslaved people and how they were woven into Greek society.

Through discussion, storytelling, and role-play, you'll explore the myths and legends that helped the Greeks make sense of their world. Gods, heroes, and monsters aren't just stories - they reveal what the Ancient Greeks believed, feared, and valued.

But life in Ancient Greece wasn't always comfortable.

As the day progresses, the focus shifts from Athens to Sparta. You'll prepare for war, examining the weapons and armour Greek soldiers relied upon (replicas), and discovering what it really took to fight as a hoplite. Can you work together to hold formation in the famous Greek phalanx?

If you succeed, you may even earn some downtime, taking part in the kinds of games and activities soldiers used to pass the time between battles.

By the end of the day, you'll have explored daily life, belief, warfare, and society in Ancient Greece - and experienced first-hand how very different lives could exist within the same civilisation.
