You can expect your day to be a highly interactive hands-on, multi-sensory experience, focusing on the Coventry Transport Museums collection of British vehicles on the planet and tells the story of a city which changed the world through transport.
Your pupils will enjoy a creative learning environment in which they can develop transferable skills such as critical thinking, communication and problem-solving.
Starting in our amazing Land Speed Exhibition, home to the fastest car in the world, pupils will learn more about the science behind speed, including air resistance and friction. Then, back in our dedicated learning space, pupils can develop working models to explore these principles. This session also enables pupils to experience the land speed record, on our 4D simulator*.
Our Victorian Cycles workshop explores real cycles, by combining History with STEM
subjects. Students will learn how cycles came to be made in Coventry, and then find out how they changed into cycles that we would recognise today. Through a carousel of 4 practical activities, supported by school and museum staff, students will investigate materials, create cycle frame models, and examine cycles up close. Students will then use their newly found understanding to explain why cycles changed in appearance so quickly in the Victorian Era.
In this workshop, pupils will use STEM skills to investigate life during World War 2, and will learn more about the blackout, rationing, and evacuees from a Coventry perspective. This session includes the walk through Blitz Experience exhibition and uses vehicles on display, other primary and secondary sources and practical activities to deepen their understanding.
Teacher notes:
• This session is an ideal part of a KS2 local history study exploring the Second World War. It can also be adapted for Year 2 pupils who have sufficient prior knowledge, supporting their studies of significant historical events in the local area or changes within living memory.
Learn about bicycles, through our interactive story about the ‘boneshaker’ bicycle. This interactive, and fun, session is based on the first bicycle produced in Coventry, and its pioneer Mr Rowley Turner.
Pupils will join in with the storytelling, through object handling, action songs, and dressing up.
