Educational Visits at RAF Museum, Midlands School Trip

Many of our STEM workshops incorporate a problem solving element, basic arithmetic and measurement.

During our STEM workshops, students are given a brief and then will have the opportunity to work with a variety of resources, to design and build the relevant prototype. Students will evaluate their design and make changes throughout the workshop, learning about the suitability of materials and enhancing their critical thinking skills.

Our Second World War workshops are primarily delivered in our historic classroom. Pupils will use a range of sources and museum artefacts, including original RAF uniform, to develop their depth of knowledge and inspire curiosity in numerous topics relating to the war.

As well as our extensive Second World War exhibits, we are also home to the National Cold War Exhibition. Therefore students can develop their understanding of world politics from the Second World War up to the present day. We offer a range of Cold War themed workshops, which we can cater to specific GCSE topics upon request.

By engaging in any of our workshops, whether second world war or cold war, students will interact with original uniforms, RAF Uniforms and have a multi sensory experience.

Our Science of Forces and Motion workshops look at the varying effects of forces on items.

Upon request, we can cater many of our workshops to focus on specific individuals, from early pioneers of aviation to modern scientists.

Many of our historic sessions have a focus on local links with RAF Cosford which was used throughout the Second World War.

Our history sessions are designed to show every side of a topic, and it is the Museum's ethos to ensure that we share the true story of the RAF, including the diversity of its personnel. We offer sessions such as Pilots of the Caribbean - which explores personnel through the ages from all over the Carribbean. Our Battle of Britain session also looks at pilots from across the Commonwealth that came to support the RAF during the 1940's.

Through our partnerships with various organisations such as the Royal Air Force, Raytheon UK, Airbus, Rolls Royce and more - we can offer bespoke events based around careers advice. Previous examples of such events include a STEM lecture series for KS4 students with professionals from varying backgrounds delivering fun educational talks and offering career pathway information.

We are currently taking part in The Wild Escape - a nationwide initiative that encourages children to explore biodiversity and wildlife. We have several resources that explore biodiversity and biomimicry.

The RAF are on a mission to reduce carbon emissions and achieve Net Zero by 2040.
We all have a responsibility to reduce our environmental impact and prevent climate change. The RAF have a strategy of initiatives and projects to strive towards sustainability and lower its carbon footprint, while maintaining operational effectiveness.
