They will go on a Patrol into the Celtic hinterlands and check who and what else might be living near by (natives), wild animals etc. An experience of sights smells and sounds and what it was like for soldiers living at the fort performing daily tasks collecting the necessities of life used in the fort such as wood and water, and hunting food.
Lunch will be held in the fort in a covered area sometimes around a campfire.
3rd Activity: Formations and Combat Training
Here we will teach your students the fighting methods of the Roman army by practising sword fighting against a wooden strike post, and spear throwing (both swords and spears are wooden and blunted). Roman army fighting formations wearing a set of roman armour (plastic) and a shield.
4th Activity: Fort Building ( optional )
Depending on weather, students help build a piece of the fort or a section of Roman road. This will involve use of basics tools, shovels, carrying baskets to move sand and gravel a short distance. Or daubing walls with clay and straw. This contributes to construction of the fort. This is optional as the school can choose not to do this activity.
Yes we offer access to students with some disabilities but we say best get in touch and visit the site to see if its suitable.
