trip icon A school visit to Wroxeter Roman City is truly a unique experience. Book a free self-led visit, or allow our experts to guide your students through the remains of what was once one of the largest towns in Roman Britain. Focussing on Wroxeter's heyday and exploring the lives of the people who lived there. It will look at the impressive buildings that reflected the wealth and status of the city and the redisplayed museum will feature objects from the collection never shown before. During this time, pupils can take advantage of our new handling collection, which is full of real artefacts and replica objects from Roman Britain. They'll discover how Wroxeter was connected to the wider Roman empire, tackling topics including Roman dress, diets, artistic techniques and Wroxeter's bath complex.

Wroxeter Roman City provides cross-curricular links across numerous subjects in a fun and engaging way.

KS1-3 History: Local History Study

KS1 History: How people's lives have shaped this nation and how Britain has influenced and been influenced by the wider world

KS2 History: The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain: Julius Caesar's attempted invasion in 55 - 54 BC, the Roman Empire by AD 42 and the power of its army; successful invasion by Claudius and conquest; the 'Romanisation' of Britain and the impact of technology, culture and beliefs

KS2-3 History: The legacy of Greek or Roman culture (art, architecture or literature) on later periods in British history, including the present day

KS3 History: Study of an aspect or theme in British history from before 1066

What activities are available during educational visits?

Book your free self-led visit to Wroxeter Roman City. You and your class can walk in the footsteps of the citizens and slaves of the infamous Roman Empire and exercise where Roman citizens would have trained over 2000 years ago.

Let us inspire your students with an award-winning Discovery Visit at Wroxeter Roman City, led by one of our experts. Our sessions have been developed especially to provide fun and inspiring education activities for your class, bringing history and the curriculum to life. Sessions from £100 per group.

Romans School Trip


The Roman Conquest and Hadrians Wall The Roman Army Romanisation and ways of life

Take a Roman school trip to explore Wroxeter, once the fourth largest city in Roman Britain. Use the free downloadable Teachers' Kit, available from the English Heritage website, to support your teaching with information and activities. Enhance learning with an expert-led Discovery Visit workshop:
- ROMANS AT WROXETER: This interactive tour led by a costumed guide uncovers the city that once was, its buildings and life for the citizens and slaves of the Western Roman Empire. £100 per class, session lasts 1½ hours.
- A WROXETER EXPERIENCE: Immerse your class in Roman Britain with a full day of exploration at Wroxeter Roman City. Your class will enjoy a site tour with a costumed guide, a visit to the Roman Town house, dressing up and expert-led hands-on activities. £200 per class, session lasts for a full day.


What size groups do we cater for?

There are generally no limits to the size of education group, provided the group meets our ratios for leaders to learners. Our Discovery Visit workshops are suitable for groups of up to 30. Please see our school visit terms and conditions on our website for further details.

Many of our sites have education rooms that can be booked. Please check the relevant schools property page before making a booking.

Our facilities have been designed to be as accessible as possible in order to meet the different needs of our visitors. A summary of the facilities provided can be found on our schools property pages.
If you or anyone in your group has particular access needs, please let us know at the point of booking or get in touch with our bookings team before you visit. Please note that some facilities may require booking in advance.
