Computing Workshop
Information and Communications Technology Coding
By coding the BBC micro:bit to produce musical outputs, students develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging context. The activity also reinforces understanding of physical computing and how software interacts with hardware-core elements of the KS2 and KS3 computing programmes of study.
Music Workshop
Composing Music
By programming the micro:bit to generate melodies and rhythms, students engage with musical elements such as pitch, duration, tempo, and dynamics. The activity promotes listening, improvisation, and composition skills, while also fostering an understanding of how technology can be used as a tool for musical expression-aligning with the aims of the KS2 and KS3 music programmes of study.
What size groups do we cater for?
The workshop can cater to up to 35 students per workshop.
Anything else?
To run the workshop, we would require a classroom-size space with access to a front-of-class display.
We would run this workshop as a half-day. This is 2 hours of delivery that can be duplicated to be run twice in one day.
