Starting the day with each pupil creating their own name in hieroglyphics, helps to set the scene for a day of adventure where Skern Lodge is turned into an Egyptian temple and the River Torridge becomes the Nile. Using a range of practical exercises and outdoor activities, pupils will be guided through a day themed around your chose topic.

Our Viking-themed sessions at Skern Adventure Appledore bring local history to life through storytelling, exploration and hands-on experience. Set in the historic village of Appledore, pupils discover the story of Hubba the Dane and the Viking influence on the North Devon coastline.

In 1863, the seaside resort of Westward Ho! was founded. Many hotels and boarding houses were built and it became a place for wealthy Victorians to come and relax in the coastal waters. Touring around Westward Ho!, many of these grand properties can be still seen and with the addition of period photos, the impact of how the Victorians built a village on the coast can be found.

Our geology sessions at Skern Adventure Appledore use the unique coastal environment of Westward Ho! to bring geological processes to life. From wave-cut platforms and longshore drift to coastal erosion and management, students explore real-world examples in a dynamic and accessible setting.
