Quick Overview - The Place: Hakuba Valley. Hakuba is a picturesque mountain village nestled in the Japanese Alps in Nagano Prefecture. Surrounded by jagged peaks and lush forests, Hakuba has a traditional Japanese charm. From the slopes, you will be gazing out at rugged snow capped peaks that seem to touch the sky. The town of Hakuba itself has an authentic Japanese mountain village feel. Traditional wooden lodges and onsen (hot springs) are scattered throughout, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. During winter, the town is at its busiest with visitors, but nowhere near as crowded as many European ski resorts. Excellent ski facilities include modern lifts and interconnected ski areas. When it snows in Japan, it really snows! Hakuba offers over 200 kilometers of ski runs, catering for beginners to experts. You can explore wide open groomed pistes, and some of the best deep powder in the world. There are also terrain parks and half pipes.
On your trip to Japan, you can expect to improve your skiing or snowboarding ability, as well as learn more about Japan's unique culture.
You will better understand Japan's ancient traditions and how they influence modern living. You will also get to sample traditional cuisine and improve your Japanese language skills.
