Recreate a Victorian school room, complete with slates and chalk, nineteenth century teaching methods, and legendary discipline! The selection of workshops below will help your class learn all about the Victorian Era, from famous Victorians like Florence Nightingale and Emily Pankhurst, to the many inventors and inventions that changed the way of life for millions of people.
Perhaps the topic that will be easiest to comprehend for your students is a Victorian childhood. Let them discover what was it like to be a child at the end of the eighteen hundreds. Explore traditional toys and games and find out how short their period of education was before they were expected to begin work.
Being close enough to the modern day means that we can take advantage of early photography to show comparisons between the Victorian period and today's world. Our workshops can teach about the development of the railways, or life in industrial towns built around coal, cotton or pottery. We can link to literacy topics through writers like Charles Dickens, looking at what it was like to be extemely poor in Victorian England, and how the gentry lived in the stately homes.
All of these Victorian school workshops are designed to compliment your class topic and help bring to life various aspect of life during the reign of Queen Victoria.
