Land & Wave has been taking school groups outdoors on the Jurassic Coast for over 15 years, and we genuinely love what we do. Based in Swanage, Dorset, we're a team of experienced outdoor instructors who believe that time outside - away from screens and classrooms - does something remarkable for young people.
We work with primary and secondary schools across the UK, welcoming hundreds of groups every year to one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the country. Whether it's a Year 6 residential, a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, or a day of coasteering and paddleboarding for a sixth-form team-building trip, we build programmes around what your students actually need.
Our Dorset base gives schools access to spectacular natural environments - from the sea stacks and ledges of Dancing Ledge to the sheltered waters of Swanage Bay and the woodland and heathland of the Purbeck Hills. Activities include coasteering, sea kayaking, paddleboarding, bushcraft, rock climbing, abseiling, team challenges, and more. We also run DofE qualifying expeditions and can support Bronze, Silver, and Gold programmes from start to finish.
Accommodation options range from camping at our farm sites to hotel-based stays in Bournemouth, so we can cater for groups of all sizes and budgets. We handle the planning and risk management, so you can focus on being present with your students.

Mental Health First Aid - Level 2 Award
Accredited by NCFE | In person | 1 day
This accredited one-day course gives school staff the knowledge and practical skills to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental ill health in young people and colleagues. Delivered by qualified instructors at Land & Wave's base in Swanage, Dorset, it covers the key stages of mental health first aid - from recognising warning signs to providing initial support and knowing when and how to refer on to professional help.
Ideal for: teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral leads, SENCOs, and school support staff.
Safeguarding Children - Level 2 Award
Accredited by NCFE | In person | 1 day
This accredited one-day course develops staff understanding of safeguarding legislation, policy, and their own responsibilities when working with children and young people. Participants will explore how to recognise indicators of abuse and neglect, understand the importance of information sharing, and know how to respond appropriately when a concern is raised.
Ideal for: all school staff with responsibility for, or regular contact with, children and young people.
Emergency First Aid at Work
Accredited by NUCO | In person | 1 day
This one-day regulated qualification equips school staff with the confidence and skills to respond to a range of first aid emergencies. Covering CPR, defibrillator use, management of unconscious casualties, and treatment of common injuries, it meets Ofsted requirements and satisfies the HSE's criteria for appointed person and first aider roles in the workplace.
Ideal for: all school staff - particularly those without a current first aid qualification or looking to renew.
Bushcraft Instructor Training and Assessment - Level 2
Accredited by NUCO | In person | Training: 2 days | Assessment: 1 day
Gain a nationally recognised qualification in bushcraft instruction and take your outdoor education offering to the next level. Land & Wave runs this course across two formats - a standard programme with two days of training followed by a separate one-day assessment, and an October half term intensive where all three days are combined into one block, ideal for teachers who want to complete the full qualification without multiple trips away.
Content covers fire lighting, shelter building, tool use, foraging, nature awareness, and the safe and effective delivery of bushcraft sessions to groups. All training and assessment takes place in Dorset's outstanding natural environments.
Ideal for: outdoor education staff, PE teachers, Forest School leaders, and any school staff looking to develop structured outdoor learning programmes.
