Four subjects to take outdoors this summer term
Lee Valley Regional Park AuthorityWe've reached that point in the academic year where lessons need freshening up, and taking learning outdoors is the perfect way to add excitement to National Curriculum topics. Take a read and find out how you can give your subjects a new lease of life in Lee Valley Regional Park.
Science

Our park is a 26-mile science lab, with rare and internationally important habitats and life cycles in action. Your class will feel like they're David Attenborough, watching nature unfold on their doorstep.
Our super science programmes are:
- Plant Discovery Days (KS1 and KS2)
- Habitat Discovery Days (Minibeast and Wildlife)
Geography
From our winding water ways and iconic Olympic venues, sustainably built, to navigating through our orienteering trail, there's plenty for pupils to observe, measure and discuss to get their thinking ticking
Some of our great geography programmes are:
- Lee Valley Ice Centre: Sustainability in Action (KS2 and KS3)
- Rivers Walk and Rivers and Lakes Discovery Day
- Orienteering (KS2 and KS3+)
History
History is around every turn in the park, from Stone Age activity to medieval monasteries and urban infrastructure. We've brought these together to create programmes that are exciting and educational for pupils.
Here are some of our hidden history programmes:
- Stone Age Discovery Day
- Waterworks Discovery Day
Art and design
Expressing yourself outdoors is a great way to explore pupils' imaginations and encourage creative thinking and problem-solving. Our programmes use natural resources to bring this to the forefront and spark independence within each child.
- Mindfulness and Natural Art Discovery Day
- Forest School
Many of our programmes cross over subjects and can fit into lesson plans throughout the academic year. See the full line-up of programmes on our website and send in your enquiry form below.
